    Blocking up my chimney!!

Ta. Does that mean put plastboard over the front and create an empty space behind and that's OK, or stuff it with insulation before blocking it off to prevent any void before putting the plasterboard over the front?

    Cable above ceiling

Thanks - cables would need to feed lights, switches and sockets ultimately. I suppose I am asking about this because last time I clipped everything to the joists but keeping them free would enable future people to remove them without taking down the ceiling at a later date if required. Do you...

    Blocking up my chimney!!

The chimney comes off from the wall, and is not ventilated at all, so just blocking it off would create a hollow void with no means of ventilation - BUT would it need to be ventilated, should I just block it off, or fill with insulation to avoid and air inside at all?

    Is kitchen door necessary?

I have seen flats with kitchen lounge in one room, and sometimes a kitchen leads off directly from a lounge into a separate kitchen area with no door. I have a flat with a long corridor, leading off the corridor is doors to bathroom kitchen and lounge. Does the kitchen need a door in this...

    Cable above ceiling

I am planning a suspended ceiling (using timber joists @ 400mm with insulation in between). There are various options for the cable routing including clipping, but is it acceptable to just let the cable lie perpendicular to the joists/insulation just resting there with only the support of the...

    Blocking up my chimney!!

Have a non working fireplace and it has been capped in the loft. I have removed the fireplace and now wish to place plasterboard over the gap. Could I have a problem with condensation if I leave the void with no means of ventilation? Should I pack it with insulation before boarding?

Shell flat already taken back to brick - what would you do?

OK, thank you. The bricks are mainly outside double skin (double brick) walls, with only one internal single single brick wall. Are we talking dot and dab insulation type board or battens with insulation and regular board both sides?

Shell flat already taken back to brick - what would you do?

I am working on a flat where the previous owner has already taken the plaster off the walls and exposed bare brick throughout. I have skim plastered to good effect before and also dot and dab boards onto poorlt finished walls before, but never had the bricks exposed. Can you : 1. dot...

Demolition of small detached two up, two down

Thanks guys - access tower not appropriate, because roof rafters are a bit dodgy and chimney needs dismantling - I'd need scaffolding to assist all round and protect chimney as it's disassembled.

Demolition of small detached two up, two down

In poor state of repair. Clay tiles, part timber frame, part brick, block and render. Needs to be done by hand due to location. Demolition quote £9,000, including skips & scaffold. Scaffolding only quote £1,500. I could clean and re-use brick as it's lime mortar. I could re-use some...

    TEEING INTO A DRAIN

Thank you. Please see attached. I need to place a new SVP to the right of the door, as it will be at ground level, so my original plan would be to Tee into the pipe from the current SVP to the drain underground level.

    TEEING INTO A DRAIN

There is a drain in a yard which I'd like to tee into. The image shows the drain. The "curved" bit leads to a rainwater guttering while the "straight" bit which leads into the curved bit from the right (with debris in it 'cos it's been unused for some time) is from a soil stack. I'd...
