Penetrating damp problem

Wanted a temporary job because I'm skint and 2k for rendering isn't an option. I'm thinking now that it's more likely to be condensation, when I decorated I removed and filled in a vent on the chimney breast and then papered over it. The damp patch is in a corner on the exterior south facing...

    Penetrating damp problem

Why is it a stupid idea and what are the potential problems ? I know I'm clutching at straws but I need it fixing without having to pay for the rendering.

    Penetrating damp problem

I don't have cavities, the wall I'm talking about is a solid brick wall.

    Penetrating damp problem

I have a large damp patch in my bedroom (roughly 2ft x 2ft). I had a builder look at it but he couldn't see anything obvious from outside, only suggested I get the exterior wall rendered. Rendering quotes have averaged around 2k though and I can't afford it. The builder also suggested...

    Leaking shower enclosure

I've posted pictures of what I can. Can't get into every nook and cranny though. I'll find someone to re-fit it. Thanks for your help.

    Leaking shower enclosure

Any idea how it might be getting inside there ? I've had two plumbers round to quote me for removing and replacing the enclosure with some fresh tiling being done before it goes back on. They seem reluctant to do it though, they're both suggesting I try other things before ripping it out.

    Leaking shower enclosure

There was roughly a 1cm gap between the end of the tiles and the vertical U channel. I filled that in with silicone and it still leaked, then I fitted a angled aluminium strip which covered that gap. I sealed both sides of the strip and it still leaks. There's no way water can get through the...

    Leaking shower enclosure

Is it OK that the U channel is fixed onto a plaster wall and not onto tiles ? Aslong as the bottom is sealed like in the video ?

    Leaking shower enclosure

http://www.flickr.com/photos/95819399@N02/ There's a few pictures showing how it's fitted. The horizontal profile that sits on the tray is sealed inside and out, I've got a feeling that's not the only issue here though. Cheers Dan.

    Leaking shower enclosure

I had to seal the inside because the profiles are fitted directly onto the plaster wall and not the tiles, not sealing the inside of the profiles would mean water running around inside them and onto the wall. So the inside is sealed but water seems to be getting into the profiles anyway and...

    Leaking shower enclosure

My girlfriends step dad and I fitted a new shower tray and enclosure to my new house a few months back. It was fitted wrongly however, the tray and enclosure were fitted and then the tiling was done inside the enclosure leading to leaks. Using a few tubes of silicone and even a length of...

    Major leak inside new window

Built and fitted a custom made head drip today and put a slope on top of it, it will do until the rendering is done. The top of the frame was held in with just expanding foam, no fixings. Proper bodge job.

    Major leak inside new window

He isn't FENSA registered, so I guess I'm stuck. Threatened him with trading standards today but he wasn't interested. After presenting him with some of the information I've got here and from speaking to other fitters he simply said they're all lying to me and he's always fitted windows that way...

    Major leak inside new window

The builder just came back and had a look, he found a gap in the slate tiles directly above the window where water was leaking in and down the brickwork. The inside of the wall isn't damp at all though, only the top of the window opening that joins the window frame. He sprayed the pointing...

    Major leak inside new window

The website wouldn't let me upload here so I've put them on flickr. Here's the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/95819399@N02/with/8750331186/#photo_8750331186 The photo of the kitchen windows with the slopes is basically what I'm thinking to have done on the leaky bedroom window.

    Major leak inside new window

Sorry, it's too late/dark for photos now, I'll get some in the morning though and post them straight away. The builder should be coming at 10am tommorow but he's only intending to look at it, I'll tell him to wait on doing the actual repairs until I find out the best way to deal with this as he...

    Major leak inside new window

How about using something that will bond with mortar to make the cill ? Then using mortar to shape a slope on top of it ? It's going to look a mess but I'll get the whole external wall rendered soon which will make the windows recessed and cover anything that get's done now. I appreciate your...

    Major leak inside new window

I don't know what he'll say to being asked to basically re-do the job, there's another window fitted exactly the same way although it isn't leaking but he'd have to re-do that aswell. I'm certainly not paying him anymore to remedy this. I don't like having jobs done that aren't right but the...

    Major leak inside new window

The windows are level with the wall, not recessed at all so I suppose there should be a plastic trim like you mentioned. I don't think he's FENSA registered, I haven't asked to be honest. Do you know the name of the plastic trims ? So I can mention it to him.

    Major leak inside new window

I had some new windows fitted a few months ago, last night one of them was letting in a lot of water when the rain was heavy. the top of the of opening on the inside is soaked and water was dripping down from it like a dripping tap, probably 1 or 2 drips per second at it's worst, we had to put a...
