Decking slope - sideways or away from the house?

Thanks for the replies guys - much appreciated. Luckily the decking isn't going to be higher than 300mm from the ground. Definitely not from the highest point. I've decided to slope sideways. It's a 5.5m deck - any advice on what fall can I get away with without ppl on the deck being able...

Decking slope - sideways or away from the house?

I'm building a 5.5m x 3m elevated deck connected to the house. I'm going to use a ledger with a 10mm gap between it and the house. The boards are going to run parallel to the house. I have an old pensioner and two kids in the house so don't really like the idea of pooled water or moss on the...

    Plug-in outdoor lights

Yeah they're low voltage and come with a transformer rated to IP44. So there's a plug just like a normal lamp. that is connected to the transformer and the transformer is then connected to the lights. I might just put the wire through the wall to my living room socket and put it into an RCD...

    Plug-in outdoor lights

Hi guys I'm thinking for putting some outdoor lights in my front garden. I've seen some in B&Q which are meant to be plugged into a mains socket (they've got a plug just like a table lamp has) . Does this mean they're notifiable or have to be installed by a qualified electrician? I'll...

    spring/touch/push latches for wardrobe doors

I've bought some ikea wardrobes and like the look of the doors without the door handles. I wanted to be able to open the doors by pushing them in a little so they spring open. The wife would absolutely love it! :D I bought some magnetic spring latches fromB&Q but because the doors are quite...

Wishing for a boys room away from the wife...

Will definitely look into the garden office thing. I was under the impression that if the building was more than 5 metres away from the main house and not taller than it planning permission would be required. I'm holping it wont. I see that I need to flesh out my requirements a bit more...

Wishing for a boys room away from the wife...

Hi All I wanted to have built a full width outhouse at the back of my garden to use as an office/boys room/summer house. It would need to be insulated and have electricity coming from the main house and maybe even water and a cloakroom. I don't mind wether its a flat room or pitched...

    Cordless Drill Headache

Right since you guys helped me choose I thought I should let you know I bought the screwfix ryobi kit with the drill and jigsaw. Both are solid. Was a bit disappointed in how Screwfix shipped it as the box was a bit battered and there was no protective packaging around the tools themselves...

    cutting skirting on the wall

I can't justify spending the £87 quid to the wife I'm afraid :( I think I'm gonna use a stanley to score the skirting first and see how deep i can get using a hand saw without damaging the wall and then use my (blunt) chisel. Sigh. thats half a day gone to remove 500mm of skirting.

    cutting skirting on the wall

I recently bought some wardrobes that I want flush against the wall but the skirting is in the way. Rather than cur the wardrobes I'm thinking of cutting the skirting away for the width of the wardrobe. Any suggestions on the best way to cut skirting that is fixed to the wall? I just need to...
