    outdoor lantern wiring

:D I'm always guilty of overspecifying. I'm gonna give the standard light switch way a go and let you guys know how it goes. The lantern is designed for the great outdoors anyway so should hold up against the elements well. Thanks everybody for all your help.

    outdoor lantern wiring

All the double pole switches I have been able to find have been 20A or more. Will this be OK to use on a lighting circuit?

Thanks for that - by terminal block I take it you mean a 5A connector block?

    outdoor lantern wiring

Ok I know I'm being a bit too persistant and maybe being a bit extra with this but can I use a 5A FCU? I like the idea of it cutting out should there be any problems with the lantern due to the weather etc.

Cleaning paint trays using wallpaper paste

One day I had a paint tray that had some dried eggshell on it. I had a bit of papering to do so I decided to mix some wallpaper paste in it and because I'm lazy I didnt bother washing it after. The next day I went to clean the tray and found that the paste had dried - I started peeling it and...

    outdoor lantern wiring

Brilliant - having connections under floorboards is exactly what I wanted to avoid!n And have I got it right? Also, is this method safe and within regs however? Also, if I use a 5A FCU doesn't this provide a home for the neutrals and an extra level of protection? I'd like that seeing as...

    Cordless Drill Headache

Hi Big All Thanks for the recommendation. I've been hearing a lot of people recommend ryobi. Have you got a link for the starter set anywhere? I haven't been able to find it on the B&Q website. I checked out the Wickes Pro 18V cordless but it's unbelievably heavy and after the wobbling...

    Cordless Drill Headache

I've got a lot of home improvements coming up ranging from putting fitted cupboards up to bulding stud walls. I figured I'd buy myself a nice cordless drill but being a bit poor due to my nice shiny new mortgage I didn't want to spend too much money. I thought I hit jackpot with the Wickes 18v...

    outdoor lantern wiring

Hi Thanks for answering. I know a junction box is the easiest way of doing this but what I was wondering is can I: 1. Connect the 2 core and earth wire to the hallway ceiling rose as if I'm connecting a new ceiling rose. 2. Connect that wire to a switched FCU and then connect the FCU...

    outdoor lantern wiring

I've bought an outdoor lantern to fit on my front porch which only has an LEN connection. I know its possible to connect via a junction box connected to the lighting circuit or via an FCU spur off a power socket but.. Can I connect a FCU to an existing ceiling rose and connect the lantern to...

Poor brickwork behind chimney breasts after removal

Thanks Noseall - I'll get me a tub of SBR. So from your answer I take it a good deep render will stabilise the loose bricks in the wall and be ok to fill the big gaps (half a brick or so) as well?

Poor brickwork behind chimney breasts after removal

Yes I think. A thin line - it looks something like this Where the lines on the outside is the explosed brick work and the line in the middle is a line of soot.
