Autodesk Homestyler vs Sektchup for interior design

Autodesk Homestyler's support and user community seems to be just as active as Sketchup. I really like both of them. Just need to decide which is more suited for what I need (interior design) before I invest my evenings in mapping out the house

Autodesk Homestyler vs Sektchup for interior design

I want to plan out a few rooms of my house that need total redecoration, new fireplace, furniture etc. To make sure everything fits I have been trying the two main free design tools, Sketchup and Autodesk Homestyler. Has anyone used either of these? First impressions are that they are...

    Light switch suddenly stopped working

Thanks for helping! Really appreciated. Yes - I do have pictures of how it was before when it was wired to the old 2 way 2 gang switch. I'll dig them all out. Strange this is that it was working before and suddenly stopped. It's the third time that has happened now in my house (once for...

    Light switch suddenly stopped working

Yes. This switch is the one upstairs. The one downstairs is terminated and no longer used. Actually the upstairs light is the one that doesn't work anymore. Downstairs is fine. But if it is getting Live from this switch then what else could be wrong?

    Light switch suddenly stopped working

The one that isn't working is for an upstairs hallway light switch. Originally there was 2-way switching, but I terminated connected the downstairs wiring and terminated the switches some time ago. Then added a plastic cover plate. This set of switches is the only one I need to be able to...

    Light switch suddenly stopped working

Yes - I've checked that. Switched the bulb with one that is fine and still not working. Not sure what to check now?

    Light switch suddenly stopped working

I have a double gang hallway light which I replaced a few weeks ago with an electronic switch. It all worked fine until a few days ago, when suddenly the light stopped working. What could be wrong? I don't know what to check first? I've tried connecting the Live and switched Live wires...

Potterton Suprima going on and off

Exactly what I did. Got a refurbed one cheap on eBay. Boiler works perfectly again now. I'm hoping to get another few years out of mine yet.

Repairing cracks in bricks from historical settlement

Yes - as Burnerman said. Fill the gaps carefully though so that it doesn't look like a patch up job. Fresh paint or mortar is always going to arouse curiosity in a surveyor who may suspect you are covering something more serious.

Would my solution to reduce condensation work?

Or put a dehumifier in there. It will heat the room a little and keep the humidity as low as you need.

Potterton Suprima going on and off

Sounds like it is operating as it should. If the water returning to the boiler is hot enough (measured by the thermister on the return pipe) then the boiler will shut off, even if there is still a call for heat from the room thermostat or tank. The pump should keep circulating the water...

    Anyone know about fireplaces?

I would like to install an open fireplace in our lounge, in a 15 x 15 foot room. I'd prefer to burn wood - as I like the look and smell. The Jetmaster range of open fireplaces are supposed to be more efficient than most fires. I like that the opening can be shut so they don't leak too...

Drilling through tiles to hang a shower caddy

I need to hang a shower caddy thing (metal cage that holds shampoos etc). Never having drilled through tile before are there any tips? I bought some specialist drill bits. Do I also still need to use a rawl plug in tile?

Central Heating Inhibitor - Price Variation

You are not comparing like with like. Some of the inhibitors listed are designed to be used at different concentrations, so for example 500ml of the ScrewFix No Nonsense stuff is equal to 1 litre of Sentinel X100. I wish there was some kind of authoritative comparison, but most people here...

Using software to plan a garden

Since we've moved in to the new house the garden has been totally neglected as we focus on house DIY. Now I want to plan what to do with the garden so I can start working on it in Spring. Does anyone have any tips on how to plan it out. Is there a free software package that could help...
