    Extra support for steel bath?

I don't think the installer put any batons up on the wall but I will have to check. I suppose that in the worst case scenario I'll have to pull out the bath and reinstall it. It seems to be a bit shorter than the old one so it's not as easy to access underneath it.

    Extra support for steel bath?

I misspoke, so to speak, earlier -- my house has an older setup, apparently, so grey water including anything from the condensate goes out into the drain rather than the soil stack. I've never had any issues with it backing up and the two have been connected for several years now.

    Extra support for steel bath?

It's all a bit of a kludge to compensate for the placement of the boiler in the attic versus the soil stack. The boiler installer didn't want to cut a hole in the roof to reach it and I didn't want to have to wrap pipes around the outside of the house. Also the soil stack is cast iron and I...

    Extra support for steel bath?

Just had a new steel bath installed but despite the description saying it is the same thickness as the old one it seems to flex a tiny bit when I stand in it. I'm wondering if I should find a way to add a bit of support in the middle, but the plumbing under it is somewhat complicated. I swapped...

    Idiot's guide to laying LVT?

The difficult bit was the scheduling. Since I couldn't do the subfloor all at once, I couldn't do the screed and level part. Sticking the tiles down is easy, I've done that before, but it in that case I was sticking them on hardboard and cutting around the fixtures, which I didn't want to do in...

    Mixer tap lever doesn't turn

So I just got a brand new Ideal Standard Ceraline basin mixer tap installed today, and the lever doesn't turn all the way to one side. It's supposed to turn left and right for hot and cold but it only turns slightly to the hot side. Is it likely to be a defect, or an adjustment that needs to...

    Idiot's guide to laying LVT?

Well there have been a few complications since my first post. One of the walls is in worse shape than expected so needs plastering, and some of the old pipework started leaking, and the timetable for all the works has been messed up. So I'm trying to figure out a way to get a working bathroom as...

Skirting under tile on dot and dab and plaster - what fixings to use

Yeah they are brand new plasterboard so they should be totally flat.

    Idiot's guide to laying LVT?

So to revisit this thread, I decided that I wouldn't be able to do the screed and all around getting the toilet and everything else put in, so I changed plans to Quick-step click LVT planks. However due to scheduling issues I'll have to leave an access point for the radiator pipes under the...

Skirting under tile on dot and dab and plaster - what fixings to use

Hardly at all. Actually after reading many threads yesterday I'm wondering if I should try the expanding foam option. Nice thing about that is that it would be much easier to remove if necessary. An attractive concept for the fragile wall especially.

Skirting under tile on dot and dab and plaster - what fixings to use

I want to put skirting on three walls, each one slightly different. Wall one is plaster over a horrible cardboard paramount partition, wall two is brand new dot and dab plasterboard over the brick wall, and wall three is also dot and dab on brick, but has been tiled down to the level where the...

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

I investigated further after picking off some of the loose bits it looks like the door area has been filled in with another paramount piece (was it covered with green paper with a leaf-like shape on it?), then covered in some sort of mesh and stuck on with cement and plastered over. The gap...

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

Fortunately the high part is mostly over the old door so I think it's less likely. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to find that the door is still there along with the hinges and that's why it bulges out like that.

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

Could I scrape the high part down a bit to make it closer to flat before putting plasterboard on so that it doesn't stick out as much?

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

The other issue is that the wall isn't true all the way across, if that's the right term. It is thicker by the door than by the shower, so if I just stick the plasterboard over it, it will end up being quite a step between it and the tile.

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

So I have two sheets of 9mm plasterboard that were left over from the brick walls. Can I use that? The only issue is that there are no studs to attach it and it might be a bit proud of the edge of the tiles. But maybe I can put some kind of decorative trim between the end of the tiles and the...

Prepping an "egg crate" wall and old doorway for paint in a bathroom?

So I misunderstood what I was paying for in my bathroom renovation and I need to figure out how to get this wall ready to paint. It was once two small rooms and the wall is made from that egg crate stuff. The original door frame is still there, filled in and with this mesh stuff you can see...

    Do I need a plasterer?

I'm saying plasterboard in the most generic sense, but yeah the plasterboard walls will be on the wall opposite the shower so should stay fairly dry. I think he's planning to use the moisture resistant stuff whose name I can't remember.

    Do I need a plasterer?

So what was meant to be simply removing tiles from the wall in the bathroom has ended up being back to brick, as the underlying plaster was falling off the wall. My original expectation was that the existing plaster could be smoothed over and painted and that would be it, but it will obviously...

    Idiot's guide to laying LVT?

@drives how big is the room you're doing? I guess I should clarify that the stuff is only available in 5kg tubs but if I end up needing a bit more then I have to find somewhere to dispose of it. Since I'm only doing one room and it's not even 3m2 (1650mm X 1650mm) it seemed like a lot if I'm...
