    Rat proof sewer vent

Thanks, it is right above a manhole, I can get some pics later but from memory there are a couple of pipes from bath etc merging into one open channel at the bottom of the manhole. There is no other vent pipe though, its an old 1920's bungalow if that makes any difference. It looks just like...

    Rat proof sewer vent

Hi all I spent some time tracking down an odd noise and found a rat chewing trough my cast iron sewer vent cap. It has managed to chew away all the grills and has only been stopped by the clothes dryer which was pushed back against the vent ( the vent is at ground level in the garage). The rat...

Central heating with no room thermostat

I feel like a right idiot for not getting a room thermostat earlier. I was running the boiler heating thermostat (dial) on around 1/4 and the house would take an age to heat up but then stay hot. Thanks for all the help.

Central heating with no room thermostat

So I have done it and got a thermostat (a Netatmo internet one no less) and wired it up and it's quite nice. The boiler is definitely not going as much now, thanks guys. My only query is what do I set the heating temperature dial on the boiler to or is it no longer used. The Netatmo is...

Central heating with no room thermostat

If it is a lot better than I will add a thermostat, and leave the SRV's in place if possible. Is it a DIY install or are we not allowed to touch those parts of the boiler.(I work in electronics and can solder) Thanks for the help.

Central heating with no room thermostat

Thanks, will probably leave it as is then, there are 4 TRV's that would need removing along with the cost of the wall unit and plumber charges. It works OK but I did wonder how.

Central heating with no room thermostat

Hi My central heating runs off a Volkera Linea and there is no room thermostat anywhere. Each radiator has a thermostat, we control the overall house temperature from the boilers central heating hot water temperature setting. It seems to work quite well and the boiler is not always running...

    Facia with plastic cover

Hi all I forgot to update this. The roofer never turned up to remove the capping. I decided I couldn't just not pay him so I got UK power networks around to confirm the fascia would now be strong enough for their new cables. They really tugged on it and said the fascia is fine. Then they said...

    New install query

The label that says "glaze label to the outside" says argon and from a big glass supplier so should be ok. Obviously the label that says this is on the inside of the house.

    New install query

One (hopefully) last thing. Why is there a gap, it seems a bit silly to go on about the glass being this thick and filled with this gas etc when around the windows is a gap ( even if it is filled with foam)

    New install query

Thanks Gazman They are just normal replacement windows. It must dent the profit margin a bit. Do installers mind if we ask for trims with small scratches or dents to be replaced. Some of the dented trim is the trim holding the glass panels in place (the trim between the frame and glass)...

Wet kitchen blamed on grout (now with pics)

All that kit he used when all he needed was a torch and a cloth. To be fair though I still haven't found the leak. She is going to get the plumber who installed the shower mixer back to check the installation. I don't imagine he will find anything wrong with the install but the leak will...
