Wall/Ledger Plate Concerns - Adding another below and lateral stress

Well I have a bulge on another wall in the house which is quite a few inches due to the loft conversion (25 year old DIY loft). Although this new bathroom suspended floor is level, if it was slightly leaning towards the wall, then the pressure of the entire floor would lean on the wall, if that...

Wall/Ledger Plate Concerns - Adding another below and lateral stress

Thanks Notch. Understood the example but the other end of the joists are sitting in the web of an RSJ by about 100mm, so technically if the wall wanted to bulge, it could. Although the plasterboard along the RSJ would make it quite evident that there is movement.

Wall/Ledger Plate Concerns - Adding another below and lateral stress

Hi all, Builder installed a new suspended floor for my bathroom. Victorian, double solid brick wall. Detached. He used an M12 unbranded threaded rod to secure the wall plate to the wall. 4 bolts go through the wall and are bolted to a steel plate on the outside of the house. At a later date I...

    Heatmiser Smart Heating Installation Experience

Hey, thanks for this. Very detailed for someone like me who's looking to invest in pretty much the exact same system minus the NeoUltra. How are you finding it? I'm a little puzzled with the diagrams provided for the wiring centre and the RF-Switch. Both mention a HW stat, but I was under the...

Problem fitting new 25mm shower tray - water isn't falling!

Definitely wasn't. My dad believes it's because the tray doesn't have much fall to it. See from the picture below from the website the tray is not very deep. Circled bit is where we will walk into the shower which is where is was flowing backwards. Do you think there could be any issue with...

Fitter damaged inside of window - claims "it will form itself with the sunshine" - Photo attached

Hi all, Window fitter smashed a window while fitting... he replaced the glazing but there appears to be a tear inside the glazing panes. I questioned it and his response was: 'That's the spacer bar that has a tear in it that will form back after a bit of sunshine on it as it's a butyl.' Is...

Problem fitting new 25mm shower tray - water isn't falling!

Hi all, I just fitting a new shower tray with my dad on the weekend but discovered an issue straight after we fitted it. We followed manufacturers instructions to the T. Bedded the tray down with 5:1 sand and cement on Plywood subfloor and levelled the tray perfectly. The instructions then...

Not happy with the window fitter - Finding it hard to speak about it....

I actually removed all the render and trim from inside the house first so they could measure the actual frame as we are renovating the house and getting it plastered. Update: I've spoken to the guy and he was very apologetic and ensured he will resolve the issues. The only thing he isn't sure...

Not happy with the window fitter - Finding it hard to speak about it....

We knew there would be more frame then the casements. Images below of some of the issues - I'm about to send him an email. I'm beyond ****ed off now. Not sure if you can notice the wood grain trim with the smooth frames too...

Not happy with the window fitter - Finding it hard to speak about it....

The bay windows which have been fitted are smaller then that on the survey. The side bay windows should be 8cm wider each, and the middle 16cm! No idea how its that far off..... Both old and new are uPVC but the new windows are sliding sash.

Not happy with the window fitter - Finding it hard to speak about it....

Hi all, I've had an independent window fitter install several branded windows in my house. It's cost several thousand pounds. I'm particularly not happy with the way the bay window has been installed. I believe the windows could have been over an inch wider each which has left a large gap...
