    Temporary fix for leaking radiator

Hi all, hope that someone can point me in the right direction here. I've just found that one of our rads has had a tiny (but constant) leak around the area where the pipe connects to the rad (please forgive my ignorance in what it's actually called!) The corrosion is around the large nut (?)...

    Sky Dish Installation

This is only of benefit if the dish and your receiver/screen are in close proximity to each other, sothat you can either see the screen from the dish, or hear the person watching the meter.

    Sky Dish Installation

Our dish died (it fell off) so I bought a replacement one from Ebay for about £20, delivery wasn't too expensive. That was for the dish, arm and bracket. Fitting was easy, masonary drill bit and a hammer drill. Make sure you use decent anchoring though! The hardest part is alligning the dish...

Insulating over shower extractor flex hose

Am in the process of insulating the loft. The en-suite extractor hose runs from the ceiling, across the loft and then outside to a soffit board. If I insulate over the flexible hose with fibreglass wool, am I likely to run into problems with dampness, or will the wool allow enough...

    Replacing light switch in bathroom

Ok, this will probably be a dumb question, but the anonymity of the internet at least stops me from being too embaressed :D I have a pull switch in my bathroom that controls the downlighters, and also the extractor. The spring in it has gone, and so I need to replace it. I went to the...

    Insulating around downlighters

Thanks Alan, I've never even heard of loft caps before. A bit of googling as shown some people use terra cotta plant pots - as long as they're of the same size as loft caps, any reason not to use them? Thanks again for your help

Dulux kitchen paint - any good?

Hi Gille Something I can answer - I'm normally the one asking all the questions! I used Dulux kitchen paint myself last week for the first time, on newly plastered walls. I put a coat of watered down plain emulsion on first as read on here! It was indeed horrible to put on, you need a load...

Painting wood panelling in a bathroom

Thanks very much to all of you for your replies. Like the sound of the oil based eggshell. However, I'm not sure how you would know whether it was oil or water-based - sorry to be thick! Have had a quick look on the Dulux website and they say their eggshell is "solvent based" - does this...

Painting wood panelling in a bathroom

Painting wood panelling in a bathroom

Hi We are considering panelling our bathroom with wood tongue and groove panels from the floor to about a metre off the floor. However, I'm not sure how to decorate them. Ideally I would like to use specialist bathroom paint due to the damper atmosphere you get in a bathroom - however, I...

Hi all, hope that someone can offer some information and advice - and apologies if this is in the wrong forum We're renovating the house, and we're currently focussing on the bathroom. We'll have a free standing roll top bath, and like the idea of T&G panelling around the walls, to a height...

Removing excess grout from quarry tiles

Hi I am in the process of grouting my kitchen floor - which is quarry tiles on ply. I am using Bal Superflex Wide Joint Grout in black. However, it is proving a nightmare to clean off the tiles, even if wiped off immediately. Has anyone got any tips/products I could try? Thanks very much...

Bal Flex - prices and experience

hi all, thanks for the comments and advice - we'll definately mix our own adhesives now, so depending on various factors, I may be back over the weekend asking 'how do I unstick upside down tiles' as we start our first ever floor tiling project :D Thanks again :t:

Bal Flex - prices and experience

Thanks for the quick replies, appreciate your help! Out of curiosity, and the need to learn new things, why is it better to mix your own adhesives? Is it simply being able to control the consistency and strength of the adhesive, or have I missed the real reason?
