chainsaw oil and cheapest decent one

Hi Happy! I would advise you to use real chainsaw oil for safety and wear prevention, chain and bar. You know what great speed the chain moves at!! Take great care- a broken link can fly like a bullet. I don't think you will need such large oil quantities. Inspect the chain tension often...

    Pointing a patio

Right Thermo, I needed correcting, I was thinking of older heavy 3 by 2 slabs- which don't budge with daubbing.

    Red lead sealer.

Thanks guys for all the discussion and advice. One point though is I probably stated wrong in first post- I don't have a leak at this moment of gas-I have had- but surely will if I dismantl the burner supply in servicing. In the case of 'getting a Corgi guy to install the gas connection next...

    Tree branches for raised bed?

Thanks for the reply- save me a lot of cutting. And doing a poor job. Much quicker to buy- enough work putting it up! :)

    Red lead sealer.

Gee guys, I'm sorry to have caused this controvercy. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't feel I knew what I was doing. I have spent my life in engineering and had good pipe fitter contacts. Also as this is a system fully installed by myself and also has been maintained by removing the burner...

    Red lead sealer.

I have an old 'Standard' boiler with a gas compression fitting on the floor of the boiler. This has a very very small leak if knocked. but can be 'set' by a slight tilt. I have repaired this in a safety aware way a few times(Turn off, and purge on turn on) undo and hand brush the red lead...

    Tree branches for raised bed?

I've cut some tree branches. and am wondering whether these could be used on a raised bed- cut into short lengths of course, to suit. And further- what is used to prevent tree bark rotting away and must it be done as soon as cut ? Thanks

    Pointing a patio

I think your sand must be very coloured as a 4-1 mix sand to cement is definitely a cement colour. I always use 'daubs' of 6-1 under slabs so that it won't stick permanently and you can get it off if you are moving the slabs in the future. Pointing is around 4sand/1cement. Hope this helps...

    How far can damp rise?

I was thinking, so I was- And I wondered if the reason for all the different findings on how far damp can rise might be- Looking at the rising ground table around the building- would this variable issue be connected with the water pressure in each case? ('course, if you're by mountains- it's...

    Replacing a Galvanised Storage Tank

Hi, I have the same tank-20'' 20'' 20''- in metal but it's in the loft, as I changed it's position long ago. Looking at Wickes's plastic cold tank I would say that it should fit ok into the loft opening as is same size as tank above-usually. Be warned-a plastic tank will need supporting...

    From Automatic to gearstick

On safety grounds, I believe that is a good point. Talking about driving an automatic. I'm guessing that in the case of an emergency stop- which only happened two or three times in 20 years with me (well I don't remember any more) your left foot would take a bit more than half a second to...

    From Automatic to gearstick

Many thanks, L_Plate (and points from other replies) That's a very interesting quotation. I also believe the first line was not well thought out by the writer. I say this as I have just had 2 hours tuition back on manual gears. My results were quite good I thought- I did fair and ended 'good'...

    getting of the ground

Hi! Any thoughts on metal car ramps? At least you can leave the wheels on and under pressure- which could figure in an unlikely collapse. Just keep checking before use as with any tool I guess. I'm open to criticism!

    From Automatic to gearstick

Thanks guys- you have confirmed my thoughts and thanks also for the prompt that I must treat the changover seriously, or stay on automatic. A good point on taking update-lessons which I'll try to get My idea was to go more 'green' with a smaller car. The best option then is to hire one...

    From Automatic to gearstick

Hi! Does anybody know how difficult it is changing back to a gearstick. I've been 'blessed' with an automatic for 20 years and I have had the thing written off- in a very loud front end bang-up. I now find I'm on the open market for something more 'green' and smaller. Any suggestions. Do I...

    New bathroom suite

I fitted mine a long time ago. I found the hard part was tightening the bath taps, as these need a special tool- I couldn't think of any other way. Ended up borrowing one from our works plumber. There's not much room behind there- if it butts up to a wall. I used that idea on flexible hose...

What to do with my gas fire?

Before you take the dicision to discard the gas fire, have you considered that if you have a boiler for other heating , and have to endure a power cut then you won't have a backup. Boilers don't work during an electricity cut- usually a gas fire will. Just an idea I'm looking at myself. Hope...

    Replacing rotten joists...

Maybe I shouldn't butt in here- you may require a knowledgable forum official- but I would suggest you need a roll of damp proof coarse- sold in 100mm and 200mm widths. A heavy gauge black poly-something. I tacked this to the ends and turned under and over 100mm top and bottom. Also put on...
