Hi, i'm looking to get a laser level for stud work and tiling - would people recommend a Dewalt DW087k or the updated DW088k or a Stabila Lax 50 or something totally different. The stabila comes with a tripod and extension pole which is handy...

    Stud wall Thickness

    Trying to build a stud wall using 2 x 4 with a doorway and 12.5mm plasterboard. So in theory 4" = 100mm Therefore 100 + 12.5 + 12.5 + 6 (for skim) = 131mm and a door liner / casing is about this size. However i've noticed 2 x 4 wood is only about 95mm thick - how should I make up this...

    Replacing joists / installing lintel

Surveyor said when I purchased the property that "Although evidence of previous movement was apparent typical of a property of this age, we noted no evidence of recent significant movement to suggest problems at foundation level."

    Combi, impact or SDS drill

I bought the GBH 2-26DFR and it's worked a treat. Taken off 50m2 of old sand and cement plaster and used it for a fair bit of drilling and it's working perfectly. Air bricks / floor vents query

Got an external air vent on a Victorian house which internally is level with the floor. Should I put in some sort of telescopic connector so it actually ventilates under the suspended timber floor? Such as this one or should I do something else...

    Supporting Uprights

It's a bit damaged in places but otherwise mostly sound. I just thought it would be easier putting in a long length for a header and sole plate rather than individual sections.

    Supporting Uprights

I was planning on changing the door linings in the upstairs and downstairs of this terraced Victorian house as they are all p****ed and warped. The plaster on these walls was also blown so I hacked it all off and the brick infill between the uprights wasn't vertical so I thought it would be...

Cracked skim on Victorian plaster - best way to fix?

Thanks for the replies - it is wallpaper imprint you can see in the plaster. I've ended up taking off all the old plaster either side of the chimney breast and I'll get in a plasterer to patch either side and then reskim the whole wall.
