    Quicky on changing expansion tank

Thanks. To be honest I'm still scared to freeze pipes. Seen it push compression fittings right off in the winter! Will do the vacuum thing I think.

    Quicky on changing expansion tank

Hi. Quick question on changing an expansion tank. First one I've done but 17 rads on an 18 litre. Pretty sure the bags failed. Going to put a 25 litre on but can I close off with the valve underneath the tank connection? Or easier done with a quick drain and under vacuum please.

Diagnosis? Toilet slow but aav looks OK

Hi. I've a ground floor toilet suddenly backing up badly. There's another toilet plus shower and sink on the floor above. It does drain eventually but the ground floor bath that connected onto it gurgles like crazy. Odd thing, on the stack there's a stadium aav. Nicely built into the wooden...

Tiling across a cavity /close problem

Thanks. I'd seen this one https://www.diynot.com/diy/media/floordetail2.95659/ There is no screed layer to my floor though. Will a pocket not simply fall down into the cavity? Or should I build up from the base of the wall right up? .

Tiling across a cavity /close problem

Hi. Rest of the floor is celotex onto block and beam, with some chipboard on top then ply. No screed. Are you suggesting remove inner leaf down to block and beam them build up the same as the rest of the floor over the cavity?

Tiling across a cavity /close problem

Thanks. So dpm pocket filled with concrete? Was concerned about being a thermal bridge, but only 1.2m wide. Bridging the cavity I meant across both inner and outer bricks.

Tiling across a cavity /close problem

Hi. I've searched the forum for an idea but can't figure this. I'm tiling over a cavity to a new window that's about to be put in down to floor level from an existing lintel. This is at the dpc on both sides of the cavity To be level with the floor I have about 1cm thickness for something to...

Name that rad lockshield valve! [pleease]

thanks. that was one of the valves I'd tried. The thread going into the compression nut is around 23.3mm diameter, just putting a caliper across the visible threads.

Name that rad lockshield valve! [pleease]

Many thanks. My goal is to replace the valve. I've been concerned about changing the olive in case I can't get a good seal with a new olive in the same place. Pipework won't allow me any play. Valid concern and any ideas?

Name that rad lockshield valve! [pleease]

Can anyone help identify this radiator lockshield/valve please? It's the one on the right. It's larger than the one on the left. The nut on the left is about 20mm across flats. The one on the right is about 25mm. Both going on to 15mm pipework, but the right one seems much larger thread...

Changing a non-TRV rad vale without draining or freezing

Hi - is this a mad idea or might it just work? I've a valve on one side of my towel rail that turns 1/2 a turn instead of 3 full turns. So with help on the forum I'm guessing it's snapped. So I'm planning to -take the pressure the system by draining anywhere. -close the valve on the other side...

Radiator/towel rail valve working 1/2 turn only

Hi - any ideas what could be going on? I've a towel rail that always worked fine. It was removed for decorating and put back on. Now the valve on one side only turns 1/2 turn and I get very little water through it. The valve on the other side opens 3 turns. I've tried forcing it a little at the...
