    Roofing dust in loft

Thanks for your reply. Yes I'd do that as a matter of course. Just wasnt sure if it was an alarming amount in them. I think they may have been slate tiles but not sure, given they are now gone. Its probably only a small amount and most of it is black dust that's tucked into boxes through gaps...

    Roofing dust in loft

Thanks for the reply. I think they are slate tiles. Definetely ones that break like clay when dropped. I dont have a pictures but a neighbouring property that looks identical to mine still has their original roof tiles and this is what they are like if it helps. Not the clearest picture as from...

    Roofing dust in loft

Hi all, In 2009, we had all our roof tiles replaced due to natural wear and tear in our circa 1935s built home. As well as the roof tiles, we had the underlay changed too. We did have items in the loft at the time and therefore had some dirt and dust come into boxes (I am guessing this was dirt...

Faulty underfloor heating thermostat but new one has different terminal labels - help please!

Thank you for your help, appreciated. I was thinking that but wasn't sure and better to be sure. I've noticed one of the blue cables going to N has a little grey insulating tape, which is visible in the pic too, further up. I'm assuming this is part of the UFH cable as someone's tried to...

Faulty underfloor heating thermostat but new one has different terminal labels - help please!

Thanks for the replies, but unfortunately I am still a little confused on the two cables. I have attached two pictures to add some context of the existing wiring of our electric UFH. Currently it is wired like this (see image of thermostat with wires) and I am trying to transfer it to the...

Faulty underfloor heating thermostat but new one has different terminal labels - help please!

Hi all, My underfloor heating, ever since installed has never worked and I have a fault with the thermostat too (it randomly stops working and randomly fires the heating on, so I know the heating element and power is fine). To rule the issue out I bought a replacement thermostat however the...

Hot water intermittently doesnt turn on / Vaillant Boiler

@Harry Bloomfield - thank you for all your help. You were absolutely correct, it was indeed the motorised valve. In the end I diagnosed it by listening to which one was constantly buzzing! Found the lower one in my picture above to be the culprit! I did try to tap it moderately, as suggested...

Hot water intermittently doesnt turn on / Vaillant Boiler

So below the boiler I found two silver boxes with Honeywell motorized valve written on them - that must be it :). I'm guessing I have two as one is for heating and one is for water? Both have the same P/N. Any way to determine which one is which? Photo attached. Sorry it is in a tight...

Hot water intermittently doesnt turn on / Vaillant Boiler

Sorry I meant my airing cupboard has a big white Vaillant box. Does this need to be opened and its inside? There isn't much outside other than copper pipes and the filling valve, from what I can see. When i turn the hot water on I hear a click near the boiler and then I hear a buzzing noise...

Hot water intermittently doesnt turn on / Vaillant Boiler

Hi all. I have a Vaillant thermocompact system boiler paired with a Hive setup. We have our hot water on timer and it has always turned on reliably for years. Past week we have noticed that sometimes in the morning the hot water has not turned on. The Hive indicates a green light on hot water...

Hi All, Just trying to understand heating systems/boilers, as I am currently looking at buying a new property and don't want to get bitten with lots of work. Unfortunately google didn't give me a clear answer so asking here :) A property we like has what is called a hot air system for a...

    Access doors on shared driveway

LOL Great idea, but I don't want to be petty or that kind of neighbour.

    Access doors on shared driveway

Yes, so the shared driveway is basically an access area for both properties. Its a walkway that goes into the garden of each property. For us, it is to put out bins and access for large items, for him it is the same, but he also has a garage in the middle (which is used for storage). The land is...

    Access doors on shared driveway

Hi all. Between two houses we have a shared driveway whereby we have two access wooden doors, one attached to each side of the property. They were painted white and opened independently. My door was okay but my neighbours door had broken wood. My next door neighbour has decided to change both...

    Light switch wiring question

Hi, I bought a new two way light switch and it has LA, LA1, LA2 and LB, LB1, LB2. The instructions make no sense and can't find an answer on Google but would I be right in assuming LA and LB are COM1 and COM2 here?

Hive not turning on Vaillant EcoTec plus 832

It looks new but not something I've commissioned. I'll get some photos of the wiring tonight. I think it's something to do with the boiler needs to be set to 65 degrees and the Hive only allows 32 degrees. It seems like its talking to it otherwise.
