    Transit connect windscreen wiper mechanism

Thanks John. Sorry what I mean is, with the wipers turned on, when I grab the passenger side wiper arm and move it up, they then work as it should. Is that what you meant?

    Transit connect windscreen wiper mechanism

They stopped working but they work if I physically move the passenger wiper blade. Any ideas as to what could be the problem before I tear it to pieces?

    mirror demisting panel

I just imagined someone connecting into a switch with no neutral present and then wondering why it doesn't work. We all know people undertake DIY work regardless of their competency.

    mirror demisting panel

http://m.screwfix.com/details.htm?id=77859&csnbl=1 Slightly misleading description. A novice DIYer could be scratching their head for hours wondering why it doesn't work.

    Replacing 7.5kw shower with 8.5kw

That is down to personal choice. I've got a 9.5 kw and it suits our needs; the type of shower head makes a noticeable difference too. But I will admit that it will never match a combi boiler shower!

Bit of help - dimmable LEDs

If it was me I would honestly keep the pendant fitting, change the CFL for a ordinary dimmable incandescent lamp, change the switch for a dimmer and get a lampshade. This should set you back about £15, is a lot less hassle, and is arguably a preferable light source.

    Which dimmer switch?

Varilight claim on their packaging that their dimmer are energy saving as well. Im told that if you dim the lamps, it doesn't actually save energy. Is this correct?

    Pub tables

Can anyone recommend any products/tips? The top layer has worn away completely leaving bare wood. Im thinking of staining rather than a varnished finish as I feel it would be harder wearing but any suggestions most welcome. Due to the nature of the business a quick drying product would be most...

    todays find

I agree, but in the current economic climate, some choose the cheapest option and just simply do not understand that older fittings may have issues. "It works so its alright."

    todays find

No, they were a externally, ceiling mounted unit using 2no. bayonet lamps. Old style, where you undo 3 thumb screws to remove the glass cover to change the lamps?

    todays find

It appears, as one can never get a straight answer, that this place was re-wired, but existing fittings were used. The sections that were kaput were sleeved some kind of (presumably) heat proof sleeving. Everything outside of that was ok. In my mind this does beg a few questions. ie. were the...

My electrician is worried about asbestos

I'm a bit surprised this subject hasn't been brought up more often. Asbestos can be found in a lot of [ex] local authority buildings, especially flats. Artex ceilings, soffits, around pipe work, panels above doors, those hard brown floor tiles, cooking areas, etc. I dread to think of the amount...

    Shaver socket

Interesting. So Eric your opinion differs from RF's? I know the supply to the socket is fine, but I also know they are attempting to charge a toothbrush!

    Dimmer switches

Just a standard dimmer. Actually there's about 8 in total. Chandaliers, wall lamps, GU10 ceiling spots. Thinking about it, I don't recall changing ceiling spots dimmer, just the incandescent chandaliers and wall lamp dimmers. I also know the red phase incomer in the street was knackered hence my...
