    Plaster repair around new windows?

That was exactly my concern when I looked closely at the resulting situation. The fitter is coming over on Friday and I shall ask them to waterproof from the membrane to the window frame. I can DIY that if necessary, but I think it really is/was the duty of the fitter (who I paid £2500) to...

    Plaster repair around new windows?

I spoke to my local council building control this morning. They tell me that the regulations that 'noseall' states only apply to new buildings. They said it was a grey area how/if the rules could be applied to replacement windows. He told me that the window should ideally overlap the...

    Plaster repair around new windows?

Thanks. It's possible that my description and my eyes aren't quite correct. How would I get this checked? Who do I call to come and inspect this?

    Plaster repair around new windows?

Hi We had new UPVC windows fitted recently. The company suggested that we could increase our sill depth by having the new windows fitted further forwards, and we liked that idea as the current sills were very narrow. The old window recess was finished with wood. The surround was then...

Cooker hood ducting in terraced house

So, with it being a fair distance I should probably opt for the most powerful fan that I can afford - yeah? I've seen the rectangular ducting in ScrewFix and I think it would be neatest. Thanks for your tips chaps/chapesses.

Cooker hood ducting in terraced house

Hi We're moving into a terraced house soon and one of the things we're considering is whether there will be a problem when cooking. The cooker is not against an external wall so the only option for extracting steam (and smoke!) would be to use some form of ducting along the internal walls and...

    House has alarm....can I use it ?

Fair do's.... My thought was that if it covered certain parts of the house to a reasonable level, then I could add a new system to supplement it. If I was wise, I could leave the new system expandable so that in time I could get rid of the old one completely....like when woodworm finally have...

    House has alarm....can I use it ?

I'll get a photo shortly. The contact sensors are actually built into the window frames !?!? I know that the house I live in was built as part of a self-build scheme so each owner had a large amount of personal input to the final product. Perhaps the window frames were constructed to order?

    House has alarm....can I use it ?

Hi Been living in this house for nearly 3 years. I've never been overly concerned about security for various reasons, but recently had a shed broken into so have got some motivation to secure the house. We know that there is some form of alarm system in the house. Every window and door has...

    Tiles/Plastic Tiles/Plastic Panelling? Which one?

Hi I've got a shower cubicle fitted in a recess under the stairs - so there's 3 walls and an entrance. I've removed the tiles because they were not doing their job and I now want to fit a new waterproof wall covering. I don't mind doing tiling, but I wondered if there were any other...

    Small Shower Tray ?

Hi I've got a downstairs cloakroom in my house which has a shower cubicle. We used to use it but noticed that the plasterboard next to the shower was getting damp so we stopped and now use the upstairs shower (which isn't as nice). I've started thinking about ripping out the downstairs...
