solid wood flooring - float or secret nail?

I know this subject has been broached before but the post I was looking through didn't seem to have a conclusion. I have some to lay end of next week (195mm floormaster from B&Q) and I was intending on doing it as a floating floor. However I have now been advised to secret nail it instead...

    paying for a car

I recently bought a van and the dealer said it was 9k or over they had to notify for, the van was 14k so i gave him a 6k deposit and the balance when i collected it a few days later, apparently it's 9k in a single transaction not the overall cost! As for op's question, if it's a main dealer...

how to make a pipe carrier.

take a look at ebay for a second hand one if I was you, they go through on there for about £20! If you can't find any listed on their own search for transit roof rack and look out for the old BT racks as they have a pipe carrier on that can be bolted to virtually any rack. I have one on the...

Done that a few times and it always works on a test, it is a mains one and it's connected to the flashing light so was not sure if that is related to it going off.

    Flashing Light

Thanks for the replies. It's not a dimmer, just a 2g toggle type switch. If it's not dangerous thats great but my main concern now is the smoke alarm going off randomly. It has happened a few times now, including at 3am last night which scared the **** out of me and the wife, my daughter...

    Flashing Light

    Flashing Light

I have a strange problem that I hope someone can help me with. The light on my landing flashes on and off when the switch is in the off position, I think if I change the positions of the light switch downstairs it stops but as it is totally random I have not been able to actualy confirm this...

fixing battens to dot and dab plasterboard

I would nail them, assuming there is a block work wall behind the board you could nail through the board into the block so it holds ok. If it's brick and it doesn't feel secure just in the board then drill through to the brick and knock a normal plug through the board into the hole, you...

    price !!!!!!!!

Cost of materials + Time taken = Your price! I normally work out cost of materials then add a bit if I'm picking them up. I then work out roughly how many days it will take, multiply that by how much I want to earn and add it to the materials total to give me a price. If any of it is...

    loft lighting

I would use a 1 way switch and run the live through the switch front, put both the neutrals in a connector block and ditto with the earths and tape them up, tuck them in the box and screw the front on.

how do i remove emulsion from plaster board (solved)

Assuming the board is skimmed and it wasn't painted directly on the board then sanding is probably the easiest way, You'll probably find alot of it will fall off as you are sanding (if you're lucky) scraping it is more likely to make a mess of the plaster.

    Back boiler questions

There was another question I had too, I know I need a vent in the room but can I cover it somehow so the wind doesn't blow straight through it, I was thinking of making a v shape to put over it outside so air can still be drawn in but it blocks the wind blowing through.

    Is this kit any good?

I use hitachi tools and the majority of them have been superb, one thing I would say though is they do 2 ranges of drills with the main difference being the chuck, I have an 18v combi with metal chuck and it's fantastic but my 14v drill driver has the same chuck as the kit and to be honest it is...
