    Flushing multi zone systems

Thanks for the observations Tony, I followed my engineers suggestion to the letter after he had diagnosed the worst for the boiler - and after I had a mild panic over the thought of the cost of a new boiler after only 8 years of this one and nearly 25 out of the original. There was still a...

    Flushing multi zone systems

Good point raised by Bentwood. Engineer said that the leak could have been a pipe out od sight, or, within the system and being lost through the condensate trap, or the PRV. Having changed the PRV on his last visit I thought I would investigate the others first which meant checking the pipes...

    Flushing multi zone systems

Thanks Chris. I have just read up on the Magnaclean under Filters - Strainers and seen what they do. I have a gauze filter included within the UFH set-up and look at that fairly often but little if anything is caught. :?: As an interim and whilst waiting for Birthday to come around, if I...

    Flushing multi zone systems

Just a final update (should anyone be interested) I have now completed the processes of desludging and noise reduction using Sentinal products with a two flushings in between (not powerflushes) and finally added the Sentinal inhibitor. Result - noises all gone, one rad taken off and examined...

Walk in showers - soft cream coloured tray wanted

I am looking at installing a walk in shower in the family bathroom to get away from having a door. I need a soft cream coloured tray to match up with the rest of the suite but can only find white. The alternative is to make it a wet room unless someone knows a manufacturer or supplier that makes...

Mains Water Pressure - is there a norm?

Merry Christmas to all readers. No - not a sado - but someone with others who are doing the work - by way of a change - so I can catch up a bit and continue my anti social behaviour :D ! Our mains water pressure is running up to 6 bar and fluctuating. We live at the bottom of a hill and the...

    Petrol saving idea

Thanks for listing Pipeline - I put it on a week ago and it was closed down by the administator as 'advertising'! It appears to be the same spirit as DIYnot - i.e. providing help to those who may be interested in saving money! :D Would like to hear the administrators thoughts on that :?:

Mole Repellers - Do they work?

Anything other than trapping is a waste of money in my experience - trapping is the only way to keep them under control - plenty of websites that give a good grounding on how to set traps - suggest you have a go. As has already been said they soon get used to noises and ignore them. Avoid...

Condensing Boilers - optimum return temp

Tony Thanks for your response. I will look at reducing the Megaflow HW temp in view of your comment. Not sure if my boiler - Vaillant ECOmax VU 226 E - is designed to run at a greater than 20* difference but but it is rarely in that region the return often being 30* less than the flow.

    smelly dishwasher

We get the same so every now and again - I reckon it is the build up of crud. I put through the hotest wash there is and it seems to take the worst away for a while.

Condensing Boilers - optimum return temp

OK all I think I am getting there now! If I understand the responses correctly, 1.Oilman – reckons less than 55 degrees (supported by the web link at 4). 2. Chrishutt - The lower the return temperature, more condensation of water in the flue gases - more the latent heat released to the...

Tumble Driers - vented v condensing

Thanks for the input bathjobby. I have spoken to two "salespeople" today on the merits of each to get a better understanding of the subject. One reckons the Condensing TD (CTD) (from his own experience) increases the moisture within the room and the life expectancy quoted of an average...

Tumble Driers - vented v condensing

Looking to buy a TD for Xmas (how sad is that?) As I see it vented require a hole in the wall but should be reliable as they have been going for decades. The condensing do not require a hole in the wall but employ more technology which means greater initial cost and running costs. More...

Condensing Boilers - optimum return temp

Thanks oilman - my next question is - is that regardless of the temperature the boiler is running at? I'm thinking of a summer setting for hot water only of around 60 ish which is the norm in our house.

Condensing Boilers - optimum return temp

Any one know if there is an average return temperature for getting the optimum efficiency out of a Condensing Boiler please or does each manufacturer have their own target?

    Balancing Rads with TRVs

Hi All Does anyone have information on the need to balance rads fitted with TRV's - no information to hand under searches so far. It seems to me with the advent of high efficiency boilers, slimline rads and trv's that perhaps the need to restrict the flows on the return side is not as...

    Water Softenors - advice please

bathjobby After reading yours I went on to the EMWC website yesterday and left my contact details. Within a short time a chap from the EMWC rang to discuss the pros and cons of their water softenors. He also said that they are made for them by Harveys. I followed this up thinking that there...
