    Simpler than wiring a plug!

Lots of posts on the net about bad and dry joints on Potterton pcbs. My none combi Pottertons gas valve started judering (open, close 2 or 3 times a second) some years back. Had same thoughts as you about not touching it so called a National Company for a £47 + VAT per 30mins corgi man. Got a 60...

For others information; I have just been through the same process with a 6 year old Novatech notebook, which is effectively a Mitac 8640 machine. Same thing here, one accessible slot, the other nowhere to be seen but turns out it is on the opposite side of the main PCB to the one that is...

    Header Tank advice

Put a working ball cock valve on to stop the tank filling. The level of water in the tank should be low, just covering the feed pipe at the bottom. Your increased height in water is causing you to over pump, hence the steam.

Open fire conversion to Multifuel stove

I asked because I've been thinking about one myself and most of what I've read states that they burn a whole lot hotter (forget numbers but something like 2 to 3 times) than an open fire. So a chimney that is OK with an open fire, may not be with these very hot gases, could lead to leaks and...

KVA is kilo watts (Volts x Amps = Watts), so 20,000 watts. If you don't understand phasing and neutral, no quick explanation here is likely to alter that.

    Rad not heating

    1. No. 2. Yes. 3. Yes. If it is an air lock and the hose pressure moves it (upwards) you may want to check higher (upstairs) rads for bleeding the air out afterwards. Hence 1 = no, the air needs to go somewhere it can be bled. Air lock or not you are filling your system, so before you...

cushion vinyl flooring tearing in the corners of cuts

I'm about to replace some cushioned vinyl flooring which I laid some years back and would appreciate any tips to avoid what happened to the original lay. Flushing central heating system

Paid £450 in April for mine (not in cheshire) and got a proper power flush which consisted of disconnecting my pump, connecting up a much larger flushing pump (2' diameter) and flushing with chemicals. During the flushing the direction was also reversed several times to aid the job. They did...

Cavity Wall Insulation - some advice, please?

I can't help you with you main question on insulation, but surely, if your house is that drafty, track down the drafts and rectify those. By stopping the wind whistling through your house you may not then have such a need to insulate.
