replacing old boards that run under a internal wall?

I am in the process of preparing to lay reclaimed oak strip in the upstairs of my house. I have pine boards which are shot and have to come up to then be replaced with the oak. Ive just discovered the boards run continuously under a internal breeze type wall between the 2 bedrooms(is a 1930's...

Thanks Bondai, wise words. I now have my wood moisture meter and the wood is reading 14-15%. Can someone tell me what it should be for an upstairs area? I think the joists upstairs are going to read below the min value on the meter ie 7%. Thanks

Thanks for the replies guys- Lots of really helpful points made. I have dried laid a few random lengths and they do all seem equal but it does seem as if the odd board has a very very slight wobble after slotted together (not nailed just laid on solid floor) as if the t&g is not always...

Symptoms-reading your last post has depressed me because if the height from the base to the t&g might vary then Im seriously in the sh*t. Im a DIYer who knows his limits Ive been told that the wood came from one job- but I got it cheap so maybe Ive been lied to. Having said that the majority...

Symptoms- I hadn't really thought you could buy a thickness planer for diy prices but having looked at ebay they seem affordable. Maybe thats the way forward instead of sanding afterwards. Can you tell me whether the finish from a planer will be up to the job or would I need to fine sand as well...

Personally speaking Im not a fan of engineered. Maybe Im getting my lingo confused or Ive only ever seen poor quality stuff, but by engineered I tend to think of boards with several strips of wood on each, so when laid the visible joins are only present at the boards end as the manafacturer has...

Noobish No offence taken- The wood has had carpet tiles on it, has been varnished at some point and will probably vary in height slightly. I think that even with sanding and wax-oiling it will still look like an old oak strip floor. Thats what I want. No one will ever mistake it for an...

Symptoms/Break a leg- Thanks again for your input, really useful. I will definitely get one of those meters as having spent close on a grand on the reclaimed strip it would be madness to not spend an extra £20, especially as I dont know where the wood has been over the last few months...

Mattysupra- thanks for that. Could you tell me: -what should be the ideal moisture content for reclaimed oak strip? -Are all the meters you can buy for about £20 ( there seems loads of them, made by non specific co's) ok or would you recommend a particular make (no point buying a £20er if...

WoodYouLike- Thanks for the advice. I will definitely make sure Ive got 10mm at each wall. The divider you describe- what would be the proper description so that I dont look like a complete numpty in some shop? I have read alot of your v helpful posts- do you have any experience with the...

Bondai- Thanks very much for the v comprehensive post.Just one thing- not sure what you mean when you say that you have to start fixing from the edge of the room? I plan to start from one end (probably the doorway endas Ive read that getting this board so it looks square is the most important)...
