As above K18 42" deck. bearing seized on small front blade, successfully removed and new bearings fitted but the two larger blades cannot remove the pulleys, removed the bolts, pulleys only appeared to be a push fit with a key but I can't move them. They are not rusted as far as I can see, have...

    Bosch dishwasher, doesn't always empty

Its a few years old now but started only emptying intermittently, cleaned the pump and hose although not really dirty. Once the cycle has finished if you start it again it empties. I noticed that the plastic tank/pipe connector on the LH side is sometimes partly full of water. Any suggestions...

    Dash cam

Next Base are a recommended best buy from Which? and have good reports. One of my cars has a built in satnav but for the other one I have an elderly Tom Tom which has been excellent, unless you want to find somewhere that's been built in the last few years, in which case it usually shows you in...

    Poor radio signal

Its unlikely but not impossible that the radio gain is reduced, far more likely is a fault on the aerial, try sticking a bit of wire in the centre of the socket as suggested, also check that the cable outer screen it securely earthed. Peter

Car gets 20mpg less urban than specified, 30mpg less mpg extra urban, ( manufactur mpg ) normal ?

I usually manage to exceed manufacturers figures especially on extra urban, but to be fair I drive very steadily, rarely exceed 60 mph or 2000 rpm (diesels), I also live in a rural area. Peter

    Diesels

I remember the Commer TS3 engines, our refuse lorries used them, very noisy but efficient. There is a modern version that you will find on youtube that has nearly 50% efficiency. I think its under 'engineering explained'. Peter

    Diesels

The suez crises of 1956 worked very much in my favour. Due to petrol rationing driving tests were suspended but if you had a provisional license you were allowed to drive unaccompanied, a provision I took full advantage of. If you survived that they couldn't really fail you - well they didn't...

    Buying sump nut washers

Me too, although I have a stock of them. The general problem is the bolt is done up to tight and crushes the washer, if you tighten them sensibly they will last. Peter

    Buying sump nut washers

I bought a quantity on Ebay a number of years ago, they are much cheaper in quantity. Peter

    Diesels

I have run exclusively diesels for the last 30 years or more and wouldn't go back to a petrol. As a second-hand buy they probably don't cost any more than a petrol vehicle now and the torque delivery and economy is streets ahead. I run Citroen C5s, the last one I bought a 2.0. 2008, first of the...

    Brake caliper hassle

Something to try. I have successfully used this a number of times. Fill a small oil can with brake fluid, using a small screwdriver, gently pull back the flexible piston gaiter/seal by sliding the screwdriver between them to reveal part of the piston, squirt some fluid into the space, preferably...
