Don’t let your door blow open!

Yep, about 10 minutes then. The old Citroen XM 2.1 diesel seems to have been the pilot for that, the thermostat was in the bottom hose at the back of the engine, but at least you could get at it, couldn't see it though, had to change it by feel. It was a very good engine for its time. Came out...

Don’t let your door blow open!

I've done a 'how to' on the FCF forum. One chap got half way through doing it, put it back together and took it to his garage. The engine is pretty well built round it, gasket and housing was only about 25 pounds on ebay but it took me about 3 days to do it - not continuous. Had to buy...

    DMFs?

I believe your van uses the Peugeot 12 valve Hdi engine, if so only the 110 hp (with intercooler) has one, the 90 hp one doesn't, at least not in the Peugeots. Peter

    Smart charging alternators.

My C5 2.0.Hdi estate has averaged 47.9 mpg for the last 6000+ miles, in the summer on the motorway I have had in excess of 70 mpg but the mid 60s are more normal. I do drive with a very light foot, generally about 60 mph and 2000 rpm. Peter

    Ford transit Connect clutch

I agree with John. I think its got something to with centrifugal force at higher speeds. also of course you are probably using more throttle in higher gears. Peter

    Maintaining little used car batteries

I have a couple of big 12 batteries as stand by for my ham radio system, they are permanently on charge but at 13.2 volts which is officially the fully charged voltage for lead acid batteries (6 x 2.2v). I bought them secondhand at least 10 years ago, could be longer and they are still doing...

    Smart charging alternators.

Having read Johns comments and the replies I'm pleased that its unlikely that I will ever own one of these complicated things. we run a Citroen C5 estate, two in fact, the wife has one as well. They are both Mk3 2008s and are - I wouldn't say 'simple' electronically but certainly understandable...

    Scudo Cam Belt Question

The 8 valve engine is virtually bombproof, I ran them in Peugeot 406s for about 10 years. A lot easier to work on then the 16 valve which I currently have in my C5's. Peter

    Scudo Cam Belt Question

I think that uses a Peugeot 12 valve Hdi engine, if so you may find that the Peugeot parts are cheaper. Peter

    Karcher 601 Hds steam cleaner

Yes thanks. I know John is very knowledgeable, I sometimes think he runs this forum single handed.:) Whatever section you post in he usually replies. He is a very good mechanic. I did look on ebay but couldn't find much of a selection, I will try harder.:cautious: Peter

    Karcher 601 Hds steam cleaner

Oh is that what it is, I haven't heard of 'spirits of salt' since I was a kid, didn't think it was anything like hydrochloric acid. Can you buy anything of the sort over here? Peter

    Karcher 601 Hds steam cleaner

OK thanks John. Will investigate. Our water is pretty acidic - it eats water tanks anyway, would probably have to run a lot through it though. Peter
