Recommendations for an external double socket

    1. What do you mean by active rcd? 2. I'm having my house rewired as part of a renovation. I presume the different areas/ring mains of the house will be on an RCD. Are you implying that if there is ever a power cut and I'm on holiday, my chest freezer and normal fridge/freezer will not return...

Recommendations for an external double socket

Ok, noted thanks. And in one of follow on questions above, I was asking about an IP66 rated switch. Do people ever use switches inside or outside to switch off power going to an external double socket? And would the socket in theory still be safe if water poured on it from a parapet wall...

Recommendations for an external double socket

From a technical point, why wouldn't the RCD socket trip first? Also it's more convenient to trip the socket rather than the whole ring main circuit at the consumer unit and have to walk into the house if it trips because e.g. you were mowing the lawn (as it happens sometimes when the motor...

Recommendations for an external double socket

By the way, is there ANY upside of having an RCD on the socket if the main consumer unit has a RCD protection on there. Does it for example, trip the socket RCD without tripping the consumer unit and other circuits in the house that way>

Recommendations for an external double socket

How do you run your cables? Do you have an external switched power socket like this one https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08JMBDK9R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 or do you just run it of the back of an existing internal socket ring main and poke through the wall? Also, I...

What bricks are best to use around an external drain?

https://www.diy.com/departments/floplast-underground-drainage-bottle-gully-dia-110mm/81129_BQ.prd What bricks are best to use around a drain gulley like that shown in the above picture. I want to build a barrier to stop excess water flowing around the site. Also, how high are they usually...

    Small dual voltage shaver socket?

Is it permissible to place a shaver socket within 600mm of a shower area, if there is fixed glass shower screen separating the shower area from the shaver socket?

    What is this for?

So that is some sort of damp proofing membrane? What if I can use it because I have rough walls etc which the tiling was due to hide? Thanks for finding that video.

    Small dual voltage shaver socket?

If I want to install a dual voltage shaver socket, do they only come in the one large double socket back box style size? I've only so far been able to find a smaller shaver socket on amazon if I opt for the UK standard 240 voltage.

    Is this ok?

Planning on installing a shaver socket (outlined red in image) in a bathroom which will be to the right of the sink but immediately left to the left of a glass shower screen (outlined green). Will this be an issue? You can see where the wall mounted taps will go, we will have a 1m sink and the...

    Panning permission for a conservatory?

Nope, there was nothing mentioned. How do I work out then, whether I can do what I want to do under PD still? I dont believe you can bolt on a PD extension to an existing extension that was done under planning can you?

    Panning permission for a conservatory?

So we have already extended single storey on the rear by 4m on one sided an L shaped rear and 7m on the other side. This was achieved under planning permission. Highly likely maybe we may need planning again? Not sure if you can use PD on an extension?

    Panning permission for a conservatory?

Hi do you generally need planning permission to erect a conservatory to attach to the rear of a house? Say 4m wide by 4m long? Is there such a thing as a standard size conservatory, would 4x4m be a average? we’ve already extended our L shaped house at the back but have a very large garden...

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

Are you allowed to keep these units within an internal garage to the house given that there’s no co2 emission and the only output is cold air from the reverse refrigeration process? Or does the fact that you need a constant supply of air to extract the heat from it mean that the temperature...

Process of getting an extension done

There's certainly no harm in doing what my sister did which was to get a few ideas from a couple of builders first in terms of cost for options 1, 2 and 3 to get an "idea" if cost if not an accurate picture and then approach an architect or AT.
