    Loft insulation

I live in a 50s bungalow and the loft is quite well insulated, but there is a portion of loft down the centre which is boarded for access and storage. This has loft insulation on top of the boards where the storage space isn't used. This is probably better than boards only but I wondered if it'd...

    Painting loudspeaker casings

I have some large floormounted loudspeakers. Their frames are made of mdf and the finish is matt black - these panels are not polished. I would like to paint them cream or white or something lighter to suit the rest of the decor. Do I have to re-prime, or can I just plonk a wood paint on top...

    'fess up

I was working from home (no really) in my little office and one of those raspy flies started banging around the room and on the window - really irritating. So I had to give it a squish with whatever soft 'fly swatting tool' was to hand. In the office that was a windscreen protector which I...

    Water from overflow

The water board have turned our supply off and now it's back on I have a constant trickle of water out of the overflow and it sounds by the indirect Titan Flomaster like a tap is turned on slightly. No water is coming from the heating tundish to overflow (and heating pressure is fine), so I...

Think you've answered your own question there!

    Inhibitor

Hi, that mean a 'crap' filter like the Fernox/Spirulux one, or can I do something less involved with a water additive?

    Inhibitor

Everything's been smoochy for a couple of years. Stuck 100 in after doing repiping (long story) and things were good, then there was kettling so I stuck a couple of x200s which, gradually, eliminated that but now, as I'm testing, I'm getting a few clumps of air circulating. Bled the rads but it...

    Inhibitor

System's started to create air. It's has Sentinel x100 and 200 in it and I wondered which way to go. 100?

Remeha Avanta boiler losing pressure - what to try next ?

Inclined to agree with above, new pressure vessel and release valve. You said it was leaking somewhere, didn't you? * Not sure whether over pressurising the system is a sensible thing to do, as you had the problem at running pressure and it's likely to make the relief valve leak if it wasn't...

    Insulating water pipes in loft?

An insulation expert will no doubt be along soon but I would stick on the pipe foam surrounds, then top up the loft insulation. The foam tubes for a small property won't cost much but will give extra peace of mind.

    going rate for a plumber

'Tis tricky and you're stirring a nest. You could pay less and get a better job or more and get a worse one, and vice versa. Get some quotes on an even level and go from there.

    Push fit fittings leaking everywhere!!

Some love them, some hate them but I've never had an issue with Speedfit to copper. Cut plastic pipe with JG tool (not hacksaw), fit insert, make sure copper pipe has proper pipe cut end and wire wooled, whack in and tighten lock clamp. If that leaks I favour the other poster's suggestion about...
