Fancy that ! This article exactly sums up the views of some on here !

Where’s your evidence a majority want to leave? In EU elections Brexit parties won 35% of votes based on 37% turn out. That’s 13% of electorate. Doesn’t seem like much of a majority to me. Referendum best way to fix it, stick no deal on the ballot, and if there’s the majority you and...

    Proposed wiring for workshop

Good point, a double pole switch in the house sounds like a sensible addition. Testing - I will look into this.

    Proposed wiring for workshop

Hello I would like to install an electrical supply to my workshop and would appreciate thoughts. The workshop is around 10 m from the house. I require 2 double sockets and lights. The CU in the house is RCD protected. There is already a non-functional "garage" circuit with a 32A MCB. This...

Selling house - buyers EICR report

Thanks for the responses. It is interesting that there is such a range of views on this - obviously how the guidelines / regs are interpreted can be quite subjective. Ultimately I am pushing back on the requirement for a rewire as the report does not warrant it, and appreciate the comments on...

Selling house - buyers EICR report

Not sure about the lounge switch, its fitted to the wall correctly so can only assume the live wire inside has been overly stripped off perhaps? I might take a look at the meter tails out of interest - not something I have noticed but yes I can see how that could be potentially dangerous.

Selling house - buyers EICR report

The wiring in sockets is twin and earth single core. He is referring to "light sockets" I assume (aka light fittings?).

Selling house - buyers EICR report

Thanks EFL, yes ultimately is up to the buyer. Unfortunately they are FTB and are quite inexperienced when it comes to dealing with contractors and evaluating an EICR - they get told a rewire is required and take it as face value. I was of a similar opinion to you when I saw the report but not...

Selling house - buyers EICR report

Hi All I am in the process of selling my house. I posted a few weeks ago when I was trying to sort out my own EICR report and was given the run around by an electrician. I decided to get the buyer to do their own EICR, which they have done and it has come back with a few C1s, C3s and some...

    Periodic Inspection - Help needed!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I had a think and decided I would just let the buyers sort out their own test and will see what comes back with. The chap who came round wasn't registered with NIC despite advertising as an approved installer on his website - has now been reported. A week on...

    Periodic Inspection - Help needed!

I know, its just arse covering by the surveyors - frustrating. The earth bonding is on the pipe where it enters the house yes - its an old lead pipe (surveyor didn't pick up on that!!!) and its on the copper which connects into it. The cable is not particularly beefy, I am guessing at 4mm2...

    Periodic Inspection - Help needed!

The kitchen circuit is on a 32 amp breaker. The small ring covering the downstairs front of the house (3 double sockets) is on a 20 amp breaker for some reason which seems a bit low perhaps but there is minimal load on these sockets (lamps and a TV) and never had it trip. Other ring main is 32...

    Periodic Inspection - Help needed!

Thanks very much for the quick response! Confirms my gut feeling really! Yeah to be honest I don't really want to be doing this. The problem is, there are some old surface mount sockets in the kitchen and the electrics were flagged up by their surveyor as needing further investigation. The...

    Periodic Inspection - Help needed!

Hi All Wondering if I could get some advice here. I am selling my house and had an electrician round today to complete a periodic inspection certificate. As I am selling the house, I obviously need to get any unsafe issues rectified, but I got the feeling I was being taken for a ride as some...

    Covering for damp cellar wall

Hello My house is mid terraced property with a cellar. The cellar has a concrete floor and the walls are bare brick, damp in places, with salts on the bricks and the remains of some blown plaster which must have been on there years ago. The floor dry and in good condition. A chemical damp...

    Questions on fitting wood floor

Hi there I am fitting solid wood flooring to the entire ground floor of my house. This comprises the lounge and kitchen and a small (1.5 m long) hallway connecting the two. Lounge and kitchen are around 4 m by 4 m dimension. I have a few questions and would be grateful if someone could...
