    Concrete lintel sizing

Ye I've got floorboards running top to bottom but there are joists adjacent to the wall. I was going to basically put some more timber down running parallel with the floorboards so the weight is spread across 2-3 joists instead of just one closest to the wall/floorboards only

    Concrete lintel sizing

Attached a diagram. The red lines are the purlins and the green lines are the proposed openings in the original gable end (double leaf). Joists run from left to right Just out of curiosity is the purlin supporting the full load of the extension roof, and in turn is it being supported fully by...

    Concrete lintel sizing

Thanks @^woody^! Found the old timber lintel so the top of the opening will be 600mm from the purlin above. Going to hire a couple of strongboys to hold it up whilst the lintel goes in. Mortar mix above the lintel doesnt look in great shape so better safe than sorry! Thought cavity tray would...

    Concrete lintel sizing

Just had a quick measure as im heading out. A 1700mm opening (height) would leave just over 500mm between top of the lintel, and underside of the purlin

    Concrete lintel sizing

@^woody^ Would I double up (one for each course in the double leaf)? By "directly above" do you mean "inside the load triangle"? The two steel purlins would sitting be *roughly* in the middle of the spans but I can measure the distance from the top of the lintel to the purlin. I think it'll...

    Concrete lintel sizing

Hey guys, I've got a couple of openings I'd like to install in one of the gables of the house for built in wardrobes. It was originally 2 cottages, and then a subsequent extension was built on the side so we have 4 gable ends (3 double leaf, one normal cavity brick/block construction) The...

    Ply thickness for tiling

So I went back on myself, and returned the 25mm in favor of 18mm. Too much of a step up from landing. Going to do my best to limit deflection in the floor, and get some super flexible adhesive. Not ideal, but that will mean the finished floor is approx 10mm above the floorboard on the landing...

    Accessibility of Earth Bonding Clamp

Had a chat the my neighbours sparky today. Seems the supplementary bonding isnt required anymore as none of the metal pipes will be exposed (replacing the last leg with plastic) . I found where the other earth went; to some pipe near the main stop cock which should remain. The far ensuite will...

    Accessibility of Earth Bonding Clamp

@ban-all-sheds how do you tell the difference between main bonding and supplementary bonding? These earth cables go back to some terminals next to the consumer unit (part of the main electrical installation coming in to the property before the CU - the name of this escapes me) To be honest...

    No venting on soil stack

@Hugh Jaleak I have a plan, let me draw it up and see what you think.

    Accessibility of Earth Bonding Clamp

@ban-all-sheds electrics arent my strong point, but looking at where the earth cable runs theres a leg that comes back from the ensuite at the other end of the house (furthest from the consumer unit) and theres a leg that runs from the bathroom to the downstairs kitchen (probably to the boiler)...

    No venting on soil stack

Yup, I double checked in the loft last night. There are open two vent pipes inside the stud walling (80mm) about 1m apart but only one is in use judging by the smell! I'm with you on the AAV so I will try my best to find a way to install one. I'm going to pick up a few joints and some pipe...

    Accessibility of Earth Bonding Clamp

Hey guys, Very quick question... Does the clamp need to be accessible for inspection as its not a permanent connection? I had the mega flo moved which was located at the back of the shower (hot and cold supply to the shower was fed from the cupboard housing the megaflo). The earth bonding...

    No venting on soil stack

Just had a look at the plans again... The foul is running the opposite way to what I had assumed so the ventilated stack is at the HEAD of the drain. The drawing has the ventilated stack (upstairs ensuite), and a stub stack (downstairs WC). I'm fairly sure that there is only the one (these are...

    No venting on soil stack

@Nige F Just had another look up in the roof space... Theres no way to run another 110mm pipe through the wall and join the horizontal run as the existing one is quite close (6-8 inches) to the rafters so anything I do needs to work around the existing connection/stack im afraid.

    No venting on soil stack

@Nige F maybe something like https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p46128 would do? Replace the straight pipe through the wall with one of these and then fit a double branch to go up (for AAV) and left/right for 2nd toilet) I know less bends the better, but I dont really see another way to get the...

    No venting on soil stack

Is there something that's more like a Y than a T? It doesn't solve the lack of venting but would ensure no cross flow

    No venting on soil stack

Ah good point! Back to the drawing board It won't be absolutely horizontal...I think I can get away with 30 to 45 degrees This is in internal view

    No venting on soil stack

This is what I was planning. The double branch would need to be rotated on the vertical axis to minimise the branch outlets height internally. I cannot fit the branch externally as I wouldnt be able to get the stack to the required height to fit the AAV. So if I extend internally, I have some...
