    Washing machine waste spigot

That looks perfect, thanks. Other end comes out in a manhole in the garage. Idea for non-return valve was to prevent dodgy smells and possible back-flow if the manhole were to back up. Perhaps a trap is sufficient though.

    Washing machine waste spigot

Hi all, I need to connect a washing machine to a 42mm waste pipe which protrudes horizontally from a wall in my (new) utility room. It's about 90cm up the wall (as the room is in the cellar and that's how the heights work out) so there's no room for a big tall standpipe. (I've checked and...

    What tanking product(cementitous)

Just had a bit of my cellar tanked using KA Tanking Slurry http://www.kabuildingproducts.co.uk/page_2350337.html Believe it is suitable for external application too, and the tech help guy is very useful if you give him a ring. It's doing the job so far...

    Circulating heat from conservatory

How, please? (Genuine question.) It's the same air as it would be if it went through the door.

    Problems with the builders

Check-a-trade is useless as (amongst other reasons) you cannot leave negative feedback. (It says you can, but you can't.) Any idiot would be able to find 10 jobs that went well and get feedback from them, and ignore the 90 which went badly.

    Circulating heat from conservatory

Thanks Woody, Mountainwalker. Interesting idea about the condensation. I don't normally worry about condensation when I use the air in one room to heat another by opening the doors, so I wonder why this would be different. I have seen the MHRV systems - good, but a bit overkill for what I...

Some questions about concrete (i'm confused)

Having done this myself recently, I found a good easy way to get the ratios right: got an old paint container, and determined that a bag of aggregate was (say) 5 containers, and therefore for my 5:1 mix I wanted one bag of aggregate to one container of cement. (The numbers are from memory, but...

    Garage

As a very approximate finger-in-the-air guide, my neighbours sold a detached garage in a block about 5 years ago. The deal was they got £2000 cash in their pockets and the buyer took care of everything.

    Circulating heat from conservatory

Hi folks, I am having a cellar conversion done, and it will of course include radiators. However even in the summer (when the central heating is switched off) the cellar is pretty cool. We will have to see whether the insulation being installed will solve this, but I suspect not - the walls...

Grommet required in pre-made hole in backbox?

So the one I have has the same rolled metal hole as the Appleby one. Thanks all.

Grommet required in pre-made hole in backbox?

Thanks. Yes, using pre-punched hole (which 20mm grommet doesn't fit).

Grommet required in pre-made hole in backbox?

Thanks flameport. Yes normally I'd go for a deeper box but in this case it's a bit of a problem for reasons I won't bore you with. The switch fits easily into the 16mm box so I decided to use that for an easy life. Thanks, M.

    Crocuses did not flower

Thanks both. Still no sign of flowers or buds, but perhaps we'll see some next year.
