New kitchen sink = no hot water

Thanks Paul, I have closed off the cold supply to the tap so no cold water can be getting back to the boiler now. It seems that the damage whatever it is has now been done. I'm guessing that the divertor valve in the boiler has been damaged. However it seems to work ok the first time hot...

New kitchen sink = no hot water

An update on my problem ... After a while it is possible to get hot water. i.e the shower was working fine this morning. However when the hot water has been turned off and then on again, the water is only lukewarm. I seems we have to leave it a while before we can get hot water again. I'm...

New kitchen sink = no hot water

I replaced my kitchen sink and tap today, a fairly problem free plumbing job ...... However after checking for leaks I ran the hot water and it seems to cycle between luke warm and cold but never gets hot. I have opened all the taps to make sure there is no air in the system but still not...

    Changing Kitchen Sink

There should be a gate valve where the hot water leaves the tank which will avoid you having to drain off the tank.

Drop in combi water pressure - could it NOT be a leak?

Im not a qualified expert on this, but I had the same problem with a Chaffeteux boiler and in this case removing the boiler front cover revealed the expanson vessel which had a 'tyre' valve which was used to pump air into the vessel. Of course you need to know the correct pressure. If your...

    Gas hob - automatic extraction?

Sent an email to Hotpoint querying this and they have replied that this is a requirment for some European countries, but not applicable to UK. But of course it doesn't make that clear in the installation manual.

Drop in combi water pressure - could it NOT be a leak?

Expansion vessel could need pressurising. If the pressure is low in the EV, pressure can build up when the system gets hot and force open the pressure relief valve to expel some water. When the system cools again, the pressure will be low. You top up the pressure and the cycle repeats.

    Back to wall toilet

Why not go one step further and fit a wall hung pan with concealed cistern. No worries about fixing to the floor. I've recently fitted one and it looks really good.

slightly dampen the pipe before removing. This will prevent any fibres being released into the air.

    Gas hob - automatic extraction?

The hob is a Hotpoint GQ64S Its a nice glass model but I cant see why it should have different requirements than any other hob. The manual seems to imply that its building regs that require the auto extraction

    Gas hob - automatic extraction?

I have just purchased a new gas hob which I am having professionally fitted. I thought it would be a straightforward replacement for the old hob. However the instruction book says that the room must be fitted with an air extraction system i.e cooker hood or extractor fan that starts...

    Noisy Vaillant

My Vaillant TurboMax Plus sometimes make strange noises when first switched on. Difficult to describe but it sort of emits three 'moans' and then clicks and a few seconds later fires up. We often hear when it first fires up in the morning. I have also just found out that this happens if I...

    Replaceing Bathroom extractor

Because it has a timer, it needs a permanent live connection (L) so that it will run after being switched off by the switched live (SL). Bear in mind that (L) will always be live even if the fan is switched off.

    Is this against building regs?

Went to a friends house at weekend. They were proud to show off there new kitchen extension which was indeed very nice. In one corner of the kitchen was a door which when opened revealed a cloakroom housing a washbasin and a toilet. Isn't that against building regs? I thought that a toilet...

    Remove rad, installing towel rail

When you close the valves, no water will escape from the pipework, so once the rad is drained, its ok to remove it - making sure you keep the valves tightly closed of course. It will be sensible (or may even be necessary!) to have new valves fitted with the towel rail, so this will involve...

    Joining 10mm cable

Planning to replace my elec oven / gas hob with elec oven and hob requiring 10mm cable. The cabling to the present cooker is 6mm I have an unused 10mm cable radial circuit that used to feed a shower that has now been removed. It would be good to use this for the cooker, but the cable would...

    Boiler service or safety check?

Blimey .... I wish I'd never asked! Amazing how some posts stray way off topic. Just to clarify, my question was whether I needed a service or safety check or both for my boiler. My reference to 'ripped off' perhaps needs clarifying. My thinking was, if I get a quote say for a service for...
