    Help! Boiler leaking

Got it, thanks. I opened that up and nothing came out, so I guess it's just a matter of waiting for whatever has collected in the boiler to drip out? It seems to have slowed...

    Help! Boiler leaking

How to stop the leak? I closed off the feed from the header tank in the loft, but it's still coming. Will every part of the system that's higher than the boiler need to drain before it stops?

    Help! Boiler leaking

I have a 20+ year old Potterton Suprima 50. It's just started leaking from the bottom. Guess from reading around that the heat exchanger has cracked and likely beyond economic repair. Question is... How to stop the leak? Might it stop on its own now I've turned it off? If not, do I have to drain...

    Garden Cabin

This makes an interesting read: https://www.tuin.co.uk/blog/double-glazing-in-log-cabins-why/ I bought my log cabin from Tuin and went for 45mm logs, which works perfectly as a gym. 58mm advisable for a home office though. A 58mm log has roughly the same U-value as a cavity wall with no insulation.

    Dog-leg in horizontal waste pipe

It's a plan view. I could probably get an extra drop in the dog-leg if need be, though from your reply it sounds like that's not necessary? Is there any guidance on minimum drop with bends? I assume the standard drop is for a straight run, but that a bend would impede flow.

    Dog-leg in horizontal waste pipe

I want to relocate the toilet in my first floor bathroom, however I'd need to put a dog-leg in the toilet waste running through the floor void to achieve this. Is that OK (or does it need to be straight?), and if so would a 30cm offset be achievable in 40cm (per drawing)? Thanks James

    (Another) leaking rad valve question

Thank you for saving me from myself. I can now happily get through winter with an electric heater.

    (Another) leaking rad valve question

Hi, I have a leaking rad valve on a radiator that will be torn out and replaced when I have building work done next year. So, I RTFF and found guidance on "packing the valve" with PTFE tape. However before I dive in and give this a go I have a few questions: 1. My valves are twin-entry...

Er, no. What makes you ask?

unidentified clay object buried in lawn

Interesting for sure! There is a black dot labelled GP near where it is. Key says that's either Gas Plug, or guide (sign) post. See no need for a sign post there, so now I'm wondering what on earth a gas plug is!

unidentified clay object buried in lawn

Looks right, but it's on the road side of our drain, not house side so seems unlikely

unidentified clay object buried in lawn

If it is that, does that mean I have a septic tank buried down there too, or could the septic tank be some way away? My house is 1950s so I imagine it's always been on the drains that serve our row of ex-council semis, but I happen to know that the large older house across the road (~20 m away)...

unidentified clay object buried in lawn

Can't be from an outdoor toilet... it's in the front garden about 4m in front of the house.

Replacing just a few rads on ageing system

Interesting... in fact if they build from Apr-Oct I could live without heating in the old part of the house until the new part of the house is ready to move into. Had not occurred to me!

unidentified clay object buried in lawn

Hi, Anyone have any idea what this thing is. I found it about 4" below the surface of the soil. It wobbles but I gave up trying to dig it out of the heavy clay soil once I was a spade depth deep. It is some kind of drain? Thanks James

Replacing just a few rads on ageing system

Hi, I've got planning permission through for a large extension to the tired old house I've bought. It currently has a 19 year old Potterton boiler and micro-bore pipe-work to very sluggish rads with corroded valves. It'll be next spring before we can start the building work, which will include...

Adding drainage to existing concrete slab

Got it, yes the whole roof area is draining into guttering. It's only in torrential rain that water really collects in that corner... but then torrential seems to be a regular occurrence lately. Thanks, I have plenty of concrete in the garden that needs breaking to practice on!

Adding drainage to existing concrete slab

There's gutter over the short side of the rectangle (direction of seepage), but not above the long side. Why do you ask? Having googled "cutting concrete with an angle grinder", I'm definitely erring towards adding a drainage channel vs. adding height. I've never used one, but a friend owns one...

Adding drainage to existing concrete slab

Yes I did consider this but it seemed like overkill. It's the furthest corner of the garden, so completely hidden from view.

Adding drainage to existing concrete slab

Hi, I have a bit of a conundrum and was hoping to get some ideas from the combined minds of DIYnot forum. I have built a log cabin on a newly laid concrete base. At one corner, shown in the attached picture, the base is not to the exact footprint of the log cabin and it collects water into...
