    Fan In Flat Warm Roof

Just having a chat with Mrs S about replacing the fan. There is a scant gap under the door. I reckon it should be 20mm minimum. I have a theory that the lack of airflow has contributed to the premature deaths of these fans. I'd like to shave the door down before fitting a new fan, she wants a...

Question about reinstating socket in shed

I can't see an issue. You are in effect just replacing an accessory, like for like. But if you are in Wales, it is notifiable. What I would be tempted to do is protect the cable (my choice would probably be black PVC conduit) where the cable comes out of the ground so it is protected against...

    Pendant light fixture help please

Tip, if you don't need all the flex, don't chop it off. Push the spare up into the ceiling. Then if you ever refit the light fitting in a room or house with a taller ceiling, you can let the flex down.

    Pendant light fixture help please

Something like this. You screw it to the joist, then you hook the plastic loop on and attach the wires and the cup slides up the flex and hides everything. The cup should be held in place by a screw or device on the fitting.

    Fitting Intermediate switch

If the plastic switch box is surface-mounted, it may well have an earth terminal. If it is a dry-lining box or doesn't have a terminal, yes, by all means use a Wago connector or a chock block.

What have you been doing today?

I haven't got the same gusto for decorating as I used to. I can't wait for the lounge to get finished and everything to go back in there. At the moment, there's stuff crammed into the hall, the dining room, the den and the garage, all of which will be sorted before it sets foot back into the...
