Advice on installing SECOND-HAND INDUCTION HOB, please.

If I buy a second-hand, 4-ring induction hob, and the original fittings (clips? sealing tape?) are missing, is it possible to buy these separately? Is there anything else I should know about fitting the hob (apart from minimum space required beneath and above, which I've already found out...

Can I use TOUCH N BOND to put up rails etc in bathroom

Not this product, but they debited my bank account on 7 January and eventually posted on 23rd (at least, that's what their website said) and I received the product about 10 days later :( I don't think they're actually dishonest, but they've never had a good reputation for customer service...

Gas hob "may not be installed in flats"

Aaaaah, I remember Ronan Point  It's not all gas that's prohibited (according to the hobs I've been looking at), just some, and it seems to be the ones without safety cut-out. clemenzina

Gas hob "may not be installed in flats"

Looking at replacing my gas hob, I find on Currys site some models whose specs include "May not be installed in flats". There's no explanation, but after comparing various models I'm wondering if it's the ones without "automatic safety cut-out" that this applies to. Anyone advise please...

PVCu Window Frames - easiest solution for curtains/blinds?

I've just had all my windows (6' deep Victorian, including one huge bay) replaced with PVCu double glazed windows. All my "fixing panels" have gone and there is only between 1" and 3" remaining between the tops of the frames and the ceiling. One side of the kitchen and bathroom frames is bang...

Can I use TOUCH N BOND to put up rails etc in bathroom

I'm sure you're not being rude, you're sensibly assessing my (in)capabilities! ;) I've got a corded drill but it's a bit heavy. I'm somewhat frail and that results in a lack of control, I find. Me too! I meant to ask about that. They do say 'permanent'. They're not on the approved list...

Can I use TOUCH N BOND to put up rails etc in bathroom

The Ideal World TV shopping channel is featuring some plasticine-like stuff called Touch N Bond, they say it's a miracle product, works under water, you can mold it before it dries and it can take heavy weights. Here's the description: 2 x Touch N Bond Solid sticks (2.1 oz / 60gm each) 1 x...

    Sound insulation for bathroom floor

I think I've had a mini victory - they're saying they will put down insulating underlay, then ply, then screed/sticky stuff, then the Polysafe... ...next week. My tiny bathroom has taken over month and still not finished :( Thanks, Moz :) clemenzina

    Sound insulation for bathroom floor

It's not and never has been council property, but I got a home improvement grant plus loan from the Council - they decided what I could have done, they put out the works for tender, I cannot change the contractor. The person at the Council who is 'supervising' is on holiday. I would like to...

    Sound insulation for bathroom floor

This is wordy, but I want to give an accurate picture of my problem. My flat = 1960s conversion in Victorian house. Tiny bathroom being refurbished with Council grant, a shambles so far and I am severely restricted as to choices. Immediately on top of the floorboards were (approx)...

Electrically heated towel rail in bathroom - RULES please

Based on the above advice, I found (via Google) and sent the contractor a doc published by the AMDEA - a 'code of good practice': GUIDANCE ON THE USE OF APPLIANCES IN BATH AND SHOWER ROOMS dated Feb 2003 This supports the advice given here, with diagrams. Contractor says "maybe it's out...

New Mira electric shower - need WATER SOFTENER

Unfortunately it is totally out of the question - I thought I'd never say this but... "I am a pensioner, on a very low income". I've only got the new bathroom thru a council grant/loan combo. clemenzina

New Mira electric shower - need WATER SOFTENER

Needless to say, the contractors didn't come back yesterday. I wrote to Mira again and received this reply (extract): Limescale is formed by calcium carbonate particles in the water supply crystallising as the temperature of warm water cools, so unless you have a penchant for cold showers...

Electrically heated towel rail in bathroom - RULES please

My bathroom is tiny, and one space which is wasted is the wall (fully tiled) at the non-tap end of the bath (there is an electric shower at the tap end). There is at least 1ft between the end of the bath and said wall, the space is filled by a tiled shelf. The wall backs onto the adjoining...

    Drilling Into Tiles

New Mira electric shower - need WATER SOFTENER

Thanks so much, Tony, I was just composing a suicide note after reading that linked thread (the shower being the last straw, you understand ;)), your info is so interesting and useful. My shower is supposed to have been set with a 43 degree temperature block. The contractors are back on...

New Mira electric shower - need WATER SOFTENER

MIRA "ADVANCE ATL" Electric Shower: Newly installed today. On reading the Mira manual I see that my shower is not guaranteed against limescale damage, and as I have very hard water I feel I should put in some kind of water softener. I cannot possibly afford a £££ one, but can anyone...
