Mains wiring in bathroom behind waste pipe - safe?

Thanks londonboy, The shower problem was a stuck valve which I managed to clear by removing the hose and turning to max cold to flush out the clinker. Will ask the electrician about wiring in a new shower as I know the previous owner put this one in and I bet it's not safe. Isley

Triton electric shower very hot when central heating is on

Thanks kevplumb. Soaked the head overnight in a bowl of vinegar and had a nice warm shower this morning. Only trouble was, when I hit the stop button, the element cut out but the cold water kept coming at full pressure :( Turned off mains water and elec and tried to get the front panel off...

Fit a bidet onto existing wc waste pipe?

Hi, My wife wants a bidet in the bathroom and there is about 3 feet of plastic waste pipe from the wc going to the main foul waste downpipe. Is it possible to fit a bidet in between the wc and the downpipe or would there be a problem with waste from the wc flowing into the bidet as it goes...

Mains wiring in bathroom behind waste pipe - safe?

Great, and now the shower has broken :( Cold water continues to flow (still going after 1 hour) even when the mains elec is switched off so I think a valve has got stuck open. I'm going to ask a plumber to put in a new electric shower but is this allowed with no RCD on the CU? Thanks...

Mains wiring in bathroom behind waste pipe - safe?

Thanks for the info on the fusebox. I feel a bit gutted the survey didn't pick this stuff up but it was well hidden :( Got an NICEIC / Part P electrician coming round on Friday and will post up what he says. Cheers, Isley

Mains wiring in bathroom behind waste pipe - safe?

Thanks Chri5, The connections at the bottom of the waste pipe look like spaghetti junction with lots of wires connected with chocolate blocks. If water were to run down the outside of the pipe there would be trouble :( I'll check the CU for an RCD and post a pic tonight (I'm not really...

Mains wiring in bathroom behind waste pipe - safe?

Hi, I've just bought a house and the bathroom wc had a leaky overflow so I had to rip out a wooden casing around the waste pipe and a few wet floorboards to repair it. I've discovered that the previous owner has taken a spur (correct term?) from the main fusebox downstairs under the...

Triton electric shower very hot when central heating is on

Ok, when I took off the shower hose the water coming directly out of the shower was the correct temperature and changed according to the temperature dial. I cleaned out the shower head as best I could and the hose looks ok. When I put it all back together the temperature was right at first...

Triton electric shower very hot when central heating is on

Thanks for the tip, the feed pipe is cold and when I drained all of the hot water from the system the shower is still far too hot. The pressure seems lower but the low pressure light on the shower is not coming on. Since I can pick up a similar electric shower in Argos for around £150 do...

Hi, I've just moved house and the bathroom has a Triton Opal electric shower which was working fine for the last 2 weeks but yesterday I turned on the central heating for the first time and now the shower runs really hot even on the lowest setting. Is it possible that the previous owner...

Help! Had a full survey - need help understanding some of it

Thanks for all the replies guys, very useful to a know-nothing first time buyer :) The survey looked pretty scary but I called the vendor and went round to have another look. I also asked for clarification from the surveyor and got this response: "Basically the edge of the flooring in the...

Hi all, Just received the survey report on a house I'm thinking of buying. Would appreciate an explanation of a couple of things please :) 1) "The threshold detail at the junction between the dining room and conservatory and also between the conservatory and outside require upgrading at...
