    Wall lights (again??)

Morning all (why is it always silly o'clock when I'm on here???) Nearly 12months ago the missus asked for wall lights in the room we were doing up.. Well 12months on, due to various unrelated issues I'm just getting to finishing this little job off.. I've got 2 wall lights that only...

    dot and dabbing

Thought I'd reply to this seperately... How the heck do you know when? What we found (me and my shanghied brothers who were roped in to help) regardless of the amount you put in, it seemed to stay as quite a liquid slurry. We'd read the pack, I'd scanned for advice on the net. Kept...

    dot and dabbing

I think my "problem" with making the mix stemmed from many moons of watching my dad mix it by hand, the choice words at the times etc etc And the session always ending with "I must get one of those mixers for the drill"... But he always managed to get it right and seemed to work with it for...

Thanks Dextrous, Eccles area in lovely errr Sunny salford! 8) But good news.. Not one to give up (most of the time.. But bricky stuff been there made a c*ck of it!) had another look at the problem. Answer had been staring at me for ages. Whats that old saying.. Right tool for the...

    Fixings for an LCD bracket?

I do get what your saying Foxhole (and think I can picture how it works in my head..) my only concerns with that idea is the area the ply would be fastened to is the worst part of the wall. I'll try to get a picture shortly to show. On the other hand, if I go down the stud wall route I can...

    Fixings for an LCD bracket?

Would I be right in assuming 4"x2" (or 100x47 in this new fangled money)? Is ample for the job? Still annoyed at myself for not really checking the WHOLE wall.. Just got tunnel visioned thinking I'm nearly done I can relax before the madness that is xmas  ho hum.. But it also irks...

    Fixings for an LCD bracket?

Well unfortunately bad news... Got started tonite.. Had everything measured/cut put the battens in where they should be behind the mount. Fitted the plasterboard and with the aid of a cardboard mockup tested out the height.. SWMBO had said it'll be too high... yer yer it'll be fine...

    Fixings for an LCD bracket?

Well I managed to grab some M10x95 Anchor bolts from B&Q. Checked the bracket with some equivalent M10 bolts and they'll fit fine (snug but fine). But I have to say I'm begining to wonder if there's belt n braces or overkill with these fixings?.. Ok sure they cost a fair wedge 11quid for 4...

    dot and dabbing

It depends on the mix as well.. And that's a secret I've yet to learn, I fear plasterers pass it on to their young only on their deathbed!! Based on my own little 'fun' with dot/dab there seems to be a fine line between "just right" and "you've got 15mins then you'll be left with a rock at...

    Internal Wall Insulation

Trust me Bainzy.. Go for the slab stuff Celotex/Kingspan/Xtratherm having done it both ways, I found the slabs much easier to work with. No itching for days afterwards either!!

    Wall Socket wires too short!

I have to say that now I've replaced wall sockets at my own home (completely rewired in 2007) and for my mum (Dad wired many many moons ago) I found it much easier doing mine as the sparky had left plenty and the way it folded into the box well must be an art to it!.. As for my mums? Just...

    Fixings for an LCD bracket?

Hi chaps.. Yet another question for the assembled. I'd like to wall mount our 46" lcd, picked up the bracket yesterday from Screwfix but just couldn't get my head around which set of fixings to go with it. It's being mounted on a brick chimney breast (not used/filled in) that has been...

    small wind turbine home built

Very interesting approach, would it not serve better to feed/sell back to the grid? Or is that where all the expense is with the kits you can buy?? Rob

    Quick insulation question

Sorry should have been clearer (thats what I get for posting at 3am!!) More a case of is using the foam fine and if so would you use just the plain stuff or the fire rated stuff?.. Cheers

    Quick insulation question

Hi Folks, Following some advice on here (and the nagging of SWMBO) I got cracking with insulating under our ground floor suspended floorboards.. In my humble opinion all has gone well so far, Kingspan TF70 isn't too bad to work with awkward yes getting it thru the underfloor access (I'm...

Should I use spray foam insulation?

Also being a follower of Mike one difference to note is that canadian houses are all sheeted with plyboard before any roofing material is used (be it shingles or whatever new tech he's trying out). I would guess (my opinion here mind guys!) if we did similar before tiles or slates then yes you...

Advice on insulating a ground floor

Thanks again for the reply freddie, I'm basing this on an assumption here... If I go for the rigid solution in theory (assuming I can get it through the floor traps) it could be done without lifting the floorboards up right? To be honest, I've thought about the wool solution before and...

Advice on insulating a ground floor

Hi freddie, Thanks for that. They were the only links I could find myself when searching previously. I guess my main question should really have been which is better? Solid foam ala kingspan/celotex or rockwool (of some form)? Time to install/Cost although a factor, not a major one as...

Advice on insulating a ground floor

Hi, I'm looking for advice on my plan to insulate under my groundfloor floorboards. I've trawled the archives/search and some come to a similar conclusion as myself but I wanted to confirm it with the masses. The groundfloor is all suspended flooring with a good sized crawl space (i can...
