Red weed damp fungys found in old house

OP, What your pics show is dry rot, & your proposal for spraying it with bleach wont work & could cause further problems - dont do it. The only spraying takes place after fully opening up the damaged areas - then you spray with a fungicide. There's no cheap & easy way for dealing with what you...

Ladder accessory to allow safely getting on and off house roof.

OP, No matter if the roof is pitched or flat - ladders should project above the gutter or the edge of the roof by 900mm or about three rungs. Best to tie-in 300mm either side of the ladder and about 700mm below the gutter or soffit. Drill into solid bricks & leave the eyelets in place for...

    Noises in the wall

OP, Why not post pics of the wall in question, and the outside of the wall from ground level to eaves? Perhaps be more interested in the damp than the ticking?

OP, Why not post a pic of the "very small amount" of damp?

Floor joists extend past front door

OP, Is the door frame & the door being replaced? The last board needs to be removed - do you possess a multi tool? Pic #3 is a little confusing - can you step back & and photo it again? Signs of rot are obvious on top of the board - what about underneath it? Are there air bricks in the front...

    Cavity help

OP, You show a DPC on the outer skin but no DPC on the inner skin which is the important skin ref any damp. Why has the floor & wall been opened up - was there a problem? Do you intend to keep opening up? Your skinny floorboards are for cladding not for flooring. Where the exposed joist tails...

Roughly how much should it cost to cap a chimney?

OP, The modern, best practice is always to keep chimney stacks (& chimney breasts). Parts of Buxton, & the nearby areas have various heritage conservation Regs. And conservation officers. Is the chimney stack all yours or is it shared with a neighbour? The roof cover is slate not tile. Very few...

    Where is the DPC

OP, Do you have solid floors or suspended floors? Did you buy a newly built house 3yrs ago? Where on your pic is the DPC visible? Where do you propose "to paint on a bitumen DPC"?

    Leaking drain gulley in street

OP, Joists mean a suspended floor - but no air bricks for ventilating a suspended floor can be seen. The outside ground level looks to be too high. Possibly raised when the channel drain was installed? Can you point out the FFL on pic #3? Also show any door threshold or sill? The render might be...

Filling voids under suspended timber framework floor

OP, You weren't to know but 7" is no big deal, its certainly not a massive amount. For reference: on floor jobs like yours its often best to get a professional in for the day, a morning's work actually but you pay for the day. A guy who does screeding would glance at the job - order in the...

Creating a shadow gap at bottom of wall

OP, You dont plaster down to the floor surface - you stop the plaster a little above the floor. The gap is covered by the skirting board.
