Sinking fence post close to house wall

Yeah, I thought the same (that it looked like a pipe). Digging behind it (close to the wall) is really hard. It's almost like the stone (or whatever it is) is connected to the wall with concrete, which is why I was questioning re. foundations. I am pretty sure it's flint... in one or two...

Sinking fence post close to house wall

Hi All, Slightly odd one... I have recently had my house externally insulated and the gates that were fixed to wooden posts screwed to the walls were removed. I'm not inclined to fix them back to the now insulated walls - want to keep the number of holes in the new skin as small as...

Possible to convert concealed drain windows to face drain?

Thanks, as I thought. How can/where should the face drains be placed correctly so that water doesn't just run past them and down the original route? Also.. in a frame that has 2 windows, one on top of the other, if water got in to the frame via the top window I imagine it would run round...

Possible to convert concealed drain windows to face drain?

Hi all, I've just had EWI installed. Since the cills on the existing windows were not long enough they have installed overcills that project out past the insulation. Our windows have concealed drainage. The overcills completely block the drainage slot and they have also siliconed this up...

How long is a piece of string.... En-suite install cost

Thanks all for the feedback. Am defo thinking to fix for 5 yrs, and actually intend to borrow another 50k in total. We have lots of other things to do. You are right I can overpay 10% each year so I could overpay what I don't use in 1 year anyway.

How long is a piece of string.... En-suite install cost

Well, I did say it was a bit of an open question. Just foraging for any experience anyone may have of this kind of thing. Will get someone in when the time is right... will probably not do the work until next year, but only have a limited time to sort the mortgage. So just after very rough...

How long is a piece of string.... En-suite install cost

lol! Right, 20K is a lot... but there is shedloads of other stuff we have to do to the house, so no harm in having too much. Really the unknown is the cost of installing a new SVP and connecting it to the drain in the (private) road. At the moment there is no manhole or anything...

How long is a piece of string.... En-suite install cost

Hi folks, Realise this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but am about to remortgage and looking to fix the rate for 3 or 5 years and also borrow a bit more so we can finish up a few things on the house. Need to know how much extra to borrow, hence the Q.... One thing we want...

    inline fan in bathroom

Bit late reply, but... I recently fitted a Vent-Axia ACM100 to my downstairs loo. Even on the lowest setting it's like sitting in a hurricane. If you put a piece of toilet paper up against the grille it would get sucked through, ripped up and spat out onto the patio! It was an expensive...

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

Yeah - they cut the cast iron off with an angle grinder about 10cm above the ground and connected the plastic pipe with a fernco and swan neck. Went for 60mm phenolic. Could have gone thicker, was a bit worried about it looking odd, but looks fine.

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

I emailed you the details already B-A-S. For some reason I have 2 logins, one on my work PC and another at home. So I am also benwhite. Think I sent you the details already. Steer clear of those guys.

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

They employed a plumber, who knew what he was doing and lined it up correctly and it was then screwed through to wooden blocks under the top coat. These are the insulation co. employees, who seem to be void of even the most basic common sense (half of the offset bends are connected upside down!!)

    Free outside wall insulation

I am nearing the end of an EWI install on my house. Regarding the aesthetics.. it looks a tonne better now than it did before. Before the insulation went on we had peeling paint and cracked render, mismatched patches of render where it had been patched up. Now it looks absolutely...

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

Thanks. As I thought (knew). When a company bodges so much stuff you begin to doubt your sanity. The sooner EWI can be installed by small local firms and still have access to funding the better.

Silly question: should downpipes be screwed together?

Hi All, I am having some external insulation work done at the moment. All the rendering is complete and the insulation co. is now fixing the downpipes back to the walls. They have held the sections of pipe together with screws. I think the reason why is that they have not secured the clips...
