Two replies and two slightly different answers so far...;)
OK test meters that i have at my disposposal at the moment are a Robin Continuity/Isulation meter ( KMP3075DL ) and a Megger LT7 EFLI meter.
I do have my own DMM which is of reasonable quality, or i could borrow the Fluke from...
Going by pictures that I've seen in books, and on the .net I assumed that my Earthing arrangement was a TN-C-S one. However looking more closely at the pictures on this forums Electrical info pages, i see these two pictures below look superficially just the same, save for the internal...
wow, I'm amazed that so much damage can be caused in such a small amount of time, especially given the seemingly inert nature of the two substances involved.
Now that i have my lighting up in the loft all sorted, i think i'm going to have a good look around as i know there are some...
Here is a rough guide that should help you make a more informed decision:

If you need to get a spark to test and inspect, or 'tie up' your new installation anyway ( as stated in your OP ) then it is probably better to get your...
You are eagle eyed !
I think now that the cable from Socket to FCU is 1.5mm, it was smaller than the ring cables, but it didn't click at the time . I will change it later...more hassle.
It is starting to get a bit tiresome in this house.
Everytime I decide to look at something (This FCU was just a little loose), I find something else hidden behind the plasterwork,or under the floors, or in the attic.
Nothing too serious mind, but once you discover something however minor...
I have two wall lights in my living room presumably fitted by some previous occupant. They are connected as a spur from one of my downstairs socket outlets, into a switched fused outlet.
The faceplte had become loose so i took a closer look inside. I found that the person who fitted it use...
I decided to fit a very short 4mm T&E radial connected to its own dedicted B16 MCB at one end and a standard MK socket outlet at the other.
With the MCB selected off, a kiddy proof socket blank fitted, and a couple of warning labels stuck on, plus the fact that the socket is near the floor...
Hello Folks,
I have been doing a bit of Electrical work in my services cupboard which also houses my Worcester Bosch gas central heating boiler.
I've notice a few times now that the Water presure guage on the front of the unit is a bit low , the red pointer is preset to 2 bar, but i keep...
I wanted a dedicated test socket. This one is located just above the main CU and is connected to the non RCD side of my split load CU. I can use this to test any RCD adpators.
We have been using a Fluke 71 or 73 for at least 8 years that i know of almost every single shift at work, it's been dropped more times than a whores drawers & still on the original set of test leads too.
A brand that you can trust.
I'll admit that i too use a multi meter on my car , but...
Final revision of the new 2 x new CU's the main house CU and a dedicated one just for my Hi-Fi, They are bot supplied by the black service block at bottom left.
OK I guess I'll keep a hold of it.
I've only tried the Non tripping auto test with the moulded plug test lead so far ( got a reading of 0.2 Ohms ? ) . Need to do a bit more reading before i go any further.
I certainly wouldn't try to megger a suspect wire if it had any black boxes on the...
New MCB & Short radial does seem like the most 'proper' option.
This won't be getting used for portable or outside equpment . It will be purely used as a test socket.
Yeah, I picked up a new Megger RCD320 real cheap off e-bay.
I then thought sod it and bought a Continuity/Ins checker...
Althogh I'm not a domestic electrician, I am a fully qualified Commercial Aircraft electrician so am used to using this type of test equipment. I bought a few books too , just to get some facts. <br>I have a RCD tester, Insulation/Continuity tester and an EFLI tester.
I didn't quite put them through the same hole, but did re-route them together for most of their length. I would imagine that the metalclad box should go someway to containing and constraining any stray magnetic flux.
The boxes aren't quite so wonky in real life, that is just a camera...
