    Stopcock

Hmm, I don't think this has been touched in 7 years, and it was a pig then. I presume things like WD40 don't make any difference here?

    Stopcock

Hi all. Below the kitchen sink there is my mains stopcock. I need to open it (it's currently restricting the flow), but if you take a look at my gallery you'll see that access is restricted. I can just about get a hand on it, but can't budge it. http://www.diynot.com/network/NBee/albums/3438...

    New flooring in bathroom

Thanks for the advice Symptoms. The thread you pointed me to says to cut the vinyl short of the edge and use a silicone bead - that doesn't sound like it would look to great to me, can you expand further on that? It also says no adhesive - wouldn't it move around easily?

    New flooring in bathroom

Hi all. We currently have a carpet in our bathroom, but it's very high maintenance due to cat hairs! We want to lay a smooth surface for easy cleaning, but we want to maintain some softness and insulation. It's a first floor, and the boards are quite bumpy and uneven in places so I'm not sure...

    The slowest leak ever

Under my lounge floor is pipework feeding the rads. There's one section which has quite a few joints and junctions, and recently a section of pipework was replaced. In doing so, an existing joint neaby (part of a copper tee junction) must have been disturbed slightly, and is leaking - or more...

Bathroom light switches - 1 or 2 way?

    It's a 1930s Maisonette.

Bathroom light switches - 1 or 2 way?

Right - now I have to contend with the choice of 6amp or 16amp. I think that 6A is for standard light switches, whereas 16A is for other circuits such as heaters, showers etc... is that correct?

Bathroom light switches - 1 or 2 way?

Many thanks. Yes, they are both single pull cords from within the bathroom, no other 2nd switch, so the chances are high that it's a 1 way. I want to replace both the switches with new ones that are hopefully quieter (we can hear each other). I can find 1 way ones that are suitable, but...

Bathroom light switches - 1 or 2 way?

Hi all. Please could you tell me how I can find out if my bathroom light switch is 1 or 2 way? I'm not really sure what that means, what's the difference? Also, I live in an upper maisonette. Would it be safe to assume that, whatever type mine is, my downstairs neighbour's would be the...

    Filling gaps

Ok, good question. The wall to the side of the bath is tiled, and the bath sits on its mountings and butts close to the wall but not touching. At some points there is probably a gap of about 10mm high and 10mm deep into the wall below the tiles. In fact, let me put up a piccy into my...

    Filling gaps

Hi all. I've been having problems at the back and sides of my bath where the grout and sealant strip have become rotten over time and leaked. I've stripped it all out and am going to re-do it all, but there are some pretty wide gaps in some places. I don't want to try and fill them with...

Fixing Plasterboard (Aquapanel) - do I drill?

Either my question was too taxing, way too simple, or just too boring! But anyhow, I'll answer the question myself. I marked the spot with a bradawl, and the screws went in easily just with a screwdriver - no drilling required. :D

Fixing Plasterboard (Aquapanel) - do I drill?

Hello again. I'm fixing a sheet of Aquapanel (which is essentially plasterboard but tougher and waterproof). I have got special Aquapanel fixing screws, 40mm, to fix the board to the battens. I have the worksheet, but it doesn't mention whether I'm supposed to drill through the panel...

Cleaning off old sealand and grout

Hi all. Following the current thread about how to apply silicone sealant - I'm now asking how to clean it off again! Basically I'm redoing some paneling around the bath, and I want to get all the old sealant and grout off the bath so I can start from scratch and get a good finish. I generally...

    Leaking partition in bathroom

Sorry, I only just saw this reply! This method of attaching the Aquapanel would be much more convenient for me. Fixing the ply first, and then sticking the panel to the ply - much cleaner all round, and no special fixings required. I have several tubes of Unibond 'No More Nails' - would...
