    Power shower playing up

This morning the shower just about packed up completely. It's like there's no power to it at all. When I turn it on now, it's like the power cord is switched off, there's no difference in the pressure or sound it makes. I haven't got inside it yet, but it doesn't sound like it's going to...

    Power shower playing up

Yes, apparently we do live in a hard water area - north London? I will see if I can get into the cover and check the filter. As for solenoid valves, means nothing to me - are they replaceable by a DIYer like me, and available?

    Power shower playing up

Hmm - I'm pretty sure this is a power shower... I'd have to go and dig the box out of the loft to be sure, but I know when we bought it we got a power shower! Maybe they did more than one model? I wanted a power shower for the strength of the water, and it's certainly very strong.

    Power shower playing up

Hello all. We have a 'Mira Essentials' power shower, which has been installed now for about 6 years without a problem. Now suddenly it has started struggling, the pressure is falling and the motor sounds like a car running on two cylinders. The longer it's left on the more it seems to slow...

    Replacing light switches

Haha! That's what's great about internet forums... no one agrees! Now I have a choice to make, so any other thoughts appreciated!

    Replacing light switches

Thanks RF Lighting. To confirm... a) I link the top two (currently marked L1 and L2) together, and then also put the existing top wire into either one of these so that it's joined with the link? b) I put the existing bottom two wires into the similar positions on my new switch, marked...

    Replacing light switches

Good afternoon all. While in the process of decorating our hall, I want to replace the old light switch covers with new ones. I have a load left over from a few years back which were never used, but am not sure if I can use them. The ones that are in place all have three connections - one...

    Leak in bath tap pipe

The leak doesn't appear to be associated with the taps, just the joint between two pieces of copper pipe leading to the taps. So nothing I can really do then?

    Leak in bath tap pipe

I've finally worked out where my slow leak is coming from, it's the pipe that supplies the cold bath tap. It looks like the joint where one copper slips into another has corroded. I have put a picture up, easier than explaining... http://www.geocities.com/ghall12345/leak2.jpg I'm not in a...

    Leak through bath taps

Great, thanks guys - that seems relatively straightforward. I currently have some Unibond bathroom & kitchen sealant on the go (waterproof, mould resistent etc).... would that be adequate for the job?

    Leak through bath taps

Hi. There is a very slow leak through my bath taps. It seems to be happening when the water which gatheres around the taps, when I use the shower, seeps through the joint between the bath and the tap connectors, the ones that screw up to the bath from below. The access I have to them is...

    Sealant and grout problems

Thanks for the tips chaps, I'll pick up the materials suggested this weekend. How long should I leave the new sealant and grout before allowing it to get wet once I re-apply it?

    Sealant and grout problems

Thanks for the reply. Having looked at the sealant I was using, I was wrong. It is Everbuild 'Everflex' Bath & Kitchen Sealant. The grout I used was Unibond, an all purpose waterproof combined wall tile adhesive and grout.

    Sealant and grout problems

Hello, hope I have put this in the correct forum. I am having problems in my bathroom and kitchen with sealants. If I use sealant around the edge of the bath, or behind the sink - anywhere that gets wet occasionally - it's not surviving. Within days it shrinks, cracks, or discolours with...

Help with my kitchen tap please

Hi guys, thanks for the replys. Yes I did remove the circlip myself - I wasn't sure what it did, but assumed I had to take it off to unassemble it. I'll try what you suggest and put it back together, although I've already been down to the DIY store and bought some new tap heads (which include...

Help with my kitchen tap please

Hello all, happy Mayday. My kitchen tap (installed 3 years ago) has the following symptoms: Hardly any pressure on the cold mains water. A trickle at best, and nothing if the washing machine is used, or if we run the hot water for a while from the same tap. So, I took it apart, as I wanted...

Why could I have no mains pressure?

Thanks for the reply Nige - the tap was a chrome mixer tap, and I have to say it was remarkably cheap compared with some on the market... less than £30 I seem to remember. So that's what I'll look at next...

Why could I have no mains pressure?

Hi. I live in a first floor maisonette, and our kitchen tap is fed from the mains which comes up from the flat below. Recently the pressure went, slowly getting worse and worse, and sometimes we turn the tap on and there's nothing, other times it trickles enough to use it. I'm trying to...

    De-sludging my system

Thanks for the responses. I DID read the instruction, but to be honest they are not very detailed. And I have little experience, so there's always a certain amount of guesswork involved. I'll drain it completely on saturday, and maybe stick another bottle of the stuff in, and see how that...

    De-sludging my system

Hi all. When we put our rads on for the first time a few weeks ago, we found that most of them were cold in the middle. They were fine at the end of last winter, so not sure why they're like that now. Anyway, I've put in a whole container of the desludging stuff (not firnox, the other one -...
