Warm insulation over existing felt flat roof

Hi The kitchen extension on the property I bought has a flat roof (I reckon 5-10° slope) and is uninsulated, so I want to insulate it. The felt is old and although doesn't leak could do with re-covering too. I don't want to replace the entire roof, due to time & budget restraints. Existing roof...

CLS timber thickness (38mm) vs insulation board thickness (30 or 40mm)?

Is it a big area you're covering? Go with 30mm and over the top of that between battens spray adhesive on a layer of bubble foil stuff? It won't make a huge difference, but every little helps. https://www.wickes.co.uk/Thermawrap-General-Purpose-Foil-Wrap-Insulation-1000mm-x-7m--7m2/p/145707

    Bathroom rad weeping joint

Well this is fun. Planning on doing this tomorrow as it's getting late in the date. Heating has come on, now rad is weeping from the nut at the back and no longer from top?! I've tried to tighten this but can't really tighten it anymore.

    Bathroom rad weeping joint

Thanks. To drain I'm just undoing the offending valve and letting water run out? I won't need to add any inhibitor will I?

    Bathroom rad weeping joint

Hi Bathroom towel rad has started leaking a bit, about a drip every 10 mins. Was all fine, but I shut the water off today to adjust some hot & cold pipes to fit a new sink & toilet, when I turned water back on that's when the leak started. Pic attached, what's the simplest way of dealing with...

Condensation on wood window frames, should I use sealant

Sealing the frame to the glass, I personally would use black or brown silicone (anti mould if you can get it), use a proper silicone smoothing tool, not your finger. I'm a DIYer though, someone else on here will know better. Regarding ventilation, it sounds like you need mechanical ventilation...

    Split spindle?

Hi I want to replaced the solid spindle in my composite door with a split spindle, so a key is required to open it when pulled from outside. Does the new split spindle go where the old one was? There's a few holes for spindles to go through...

Condensation on wood window frames, should I use sealant

Best off dealing with the cause of condensation? Why do you doubt you can stop it? More ventilation and warmer rooms is usually enough.

    25mm celotex floor insulation

Existing slab is nice and flat, yes. I guess I can go with ply, if that means a thinner layer of timber for more insulation. What thickness of ply should it be?

    25mm celotex floor insulation

I think it's worth doing. Cost wise is minimal, £11 for a sheet of 25mm celotex plus some timber board. I have some 11mm osb3 left from another project if that's suitable? Or am I better off buying some 18mm??

    25mm celotex floor insulation

Planning on covering with a bit of vinyl flooring, nothing fancy.

    25mm celotex floor insulation

Cheers for the replies. So, 25mm celotex, then a layer or chip/ply board over the top then floor covering (some vinyl roll)? 25mm won't make a huge difference I know, but thought a little was better than none.

    25mm celotex floor insulation

Hi I have a utility room with a concrete floor & no insulation in it. The floor level needs raising by about 30-35mm to bring it level with the adjoining kitchen floor. I was going to lay a dpm then a 30-35mm concrete slab to bring it to level, but was thinking instead of including some...

    Creda EcoResponse storage heater

Top left of the heater, looks like one of the connectors has browned a bit, burn marks? Connector is very brittle and started to break apart when I touched it. The wiring appears to be intact though.

    Creda EcoResponse storage heater

Opened the heater up. Would the thermostat be housed in this unit? Could it be the switch it's wired into? I have a multimeter, what would I be testing, other than power coming to the switch?

    Creda EcoResponse storage heater

Thanks for the replies, I'm away from home for the next few days, but will have a look at the heater when im back. Pretty sure it can be opened up, yes. When I installed it the panel came off for the thermal bricks & heating elements bro go in. The control panel works ok, it just doesn't seem...

    Creda EcoResponse storage heater

Hi Not sure if this is best place to ask. I have a Creda EcoResponse ER500 storage heater. Fitted about 7 years ago. This year however it's been acting up. It has about 10 heat level settings. On around settings 1-7 it seems to have stopped working, i.e. in the mornings I find it is cold to...

400l of oil in 2 months

I've got a Nest 3rd gen, but had trouble getting it to work with the hit water, so gave up, it controls heating only. Because it's a combi the Nest doesn't give any control over hit water, unless you set it up to think you have a system boiler, but when I did that it started acting weird and I...

400l of oil in 2 months

I have Eco mode turned on and hot water is turned to lowest setting, 1 on the dial, so it does fire up occasionally to maintain the small tank in the boiler, but I would've thought the usage for this would be minimal? Is there a way of turning this off altogether so it doesn't maintain the slave...
