Hi Harrogategas thanks for your help, the water is not heating up because the boiler is only firing for about 30 seconds before it closes down. Before it shuts off there is a lot of banging clacking which I have always associated with air in the system.

HarrogateGas, it is pumped heating gravity/hot water everything was working fine until I drained the system. Kevplumb thanks for the unhelpful comment.
