Help appreciated for this problem please, my neighbour told me she had no hot water, she has a Hortsmann Electronic 7 maxistore timer/controller, I found the fuse had blown on fused spur, so I replaced fuse and as soon as Boost is pressed on the box it blows the fuse. My first thoughts are...

    Integral garage - Utility area

Thanks Mr Winston. The garage will definatley not take a standard car if I do it, only just takes one now! Think my easiest and cheapest option is just leave things as they are and use the washing machine in the garage. Maybe a job for the future.

    Yorkshire disaster

Excellent  Reminds me of a time when I decided to move the washing machine and take the water supply from the bathroom above, I uttered those fateful words to her in doors "its only a ten minute job" Bought one of those snazzy plumbing soldering irons, stuck the connections...

    Integral garage - Utility area

Thanks Breezer I thought of putting up a breeze block wall to seperate the utility part off, so actually making the garage a third smaller, but I guess I am then creating another room and building regs will scupper that plan. If only life was simple.

    Sloping floors

I had a similiar problem, my landing sloped down to one side by 18mm, after weighing up several options, I ripped up the old floor (chipboard) and screwed batons to the joists to get the level back. It worked out so well I leveled the bedroom as well, it was a pain cutting the chipboard flooring...

    Moving the soil stack.

Not sure if this in the right forum maybe should be building. however my current soil stack goes down the middle of the kitchen and is boxed in which is a real pain. I want to move it outside which appears straight forward enough with easy access to pipes etc. The problem I have is I am...

Floor level and engineered wood floor

Thanks woodyou like, My floor is bitumen and even after using screed which improved it quite a bit its still quite wavy, I used a long plank and can see it dips up and down, is it worth me putting plywood down first, although I am not sure how I would fix this to the floor or what thickness...

Thanks Biffvernon, I have been told the wood is Lauan :!: :?: I have the choice of having it stained but think I want to keep the natural wood colour. and the glazing is 16mm K glass. Will find out more when I call in at the workshop tomorrow as I want to see where and how they are...

    Wood DG windows

After studying the forum for a few weeks I decided to go with the hardwood double glazing rather than the UPVC. I have found a place to make them and the quality of the workmanship looks good. I would like to know what questions I need to be asking to make sure I get the right hard wood...

Floor level and engineered wood floor

Can someone give me an idea of how flat / level the floor needs to be to lay an engineered wood floor. I have used screed to get it flat as possible but its still not perfectly level, is there a degree of tolerance that is acceptable. Hope the above makes some kind of sense. :?

    Boiler whirring !

I managed to get it lit again. Have bled the pump and the good news is I no longer have the horrible whirring noise, but it still lights for about 10 seconds then goes out. I will try and get the vent undone in the airing cupboard which of course is conveniently located to make it as...

    Boiler whirring !

Thanks for that, the rads have to go as the room is open plan and they take up needed wall space and the cost is something I will worry about when the bill comes in! Still leaving the pipes so I can re-install later if required. What happens is, the boiler starts up and seems to work fine for...

    Boiler whirring !

Today I drained the system to remove three rads from downstairs as I am installing electric underfloor heating. I refilled system and since then the boiler seems to have a mind of its own, everytime it tries to fire it goes for about 5 seconds then I get a whirring noise and it closes down...
