tiling - screw down plywood to floorboards

I plan to tile my kitchen floor. There is plywood over the floorboards on the main kitchen but not in the utility room. I plan to put plywood over the boards in the utility room but a mate also suggested screwing in the plywood to the floorboards every 30cm or so over the whole floor to make...

    sealant and masking tape

When applying sealant,e.g. to bath or kitchen, I try to put masking tape above and below where I want to seal. How long should I leave the masking tape on before removing? I find sometimes if I remove it too soon it leaves a thin lip of sealant which folds over itself looking untidy...

I had to remove the old boxing round the bathroom pipes to repair the toilet and most of it is rotten anyway. I've bought some 9mm MDF and plan to cut everything to shape. At present there are battens on the back wall to support the top panel, and battens on the floor to support the side...

    cordyline leaves broke

Okay, I'll try all that. Thanks for the advice. I don't really get how there won't be a gap after I trim off the bottom of the plant slowly. As you'll see in the picture there is a section of about 3 ft worth of damaged leaves maybe more (4ft). If the plant grows leaves from the top, surely it...

    orbit vs detail sander

What's the difference between an orbit and detail sander? Won't the detail sander do exactly the same job but allow you also to get into smaller gaps with its "iron" shaped sanding bottom ?

    cordyline leaves broke

We had a cordelion in the garden (pineapple shaped thing :D ), but about 2/3rds of the leaves snapped in some gales back in January so they are now all hanging down and only the leaves at the top of the plant are hanging outwards like they should. Doesn't look like the bottom will recover but...

    rusted flynuts on toilet ?!

My estimate of a 1/3rd was a little optimistic. It's barely a notch after 30 mins as it's such an akward angle. I'm gonna dremel the nut off I think.
