Boiler manufacturer states must have annual service

Thanks for the answers folks. So we seem to be saying that there are parts in the boiler that need to be replaced each year, or parts that need to be examined each year as they may need replacing. This seems very poor manufacturing. I use the example again of washing machine, dishwasher etc...

Boiler manufacturer states must have annual service

I have a WB boiler that is approaching one year old. Worcester Bosch warranty appears to only be valid if I have an annual service. This seems potentially illegal to me. I am thinking that manufacturers are legally required to give a warranty on a product as every appliance comes with one...

sealing interior painted wall before repainting

Thanks for the info folks. He may not have used the word "seal" but I interpreted his words to mean that. I guess what we are doing here is preventing the moisture from the room getting drawn into the wall. I would think that the silk paint will do that anyway (moisture will run off it rather...

sealing interior painted wall before repainting

I am trying to sell a flat which has now been empty for many months. Damp patches have appeared on some of the walls that were never there when I lived there. They are generally in the middle of walls with no damp above or below. I had a surveyor round to look and he advised that it was not...

Cheaper to leave CH on 24 hrs?

Thanks Tony, but again I wonder if we are confusing definitions. I am not interested in the amount of heat provided. I am interested in the most efficient way of maintaining that heat: heating in short regular bursts, or longer less regular bursts. Sorry, but that seems quite a simple difference...

Cheaper to leave CH on 24 hrs?

Thanks for all the input folks. I think there is some confusion over what is meant by "heating being on 24/7". If a definition of that is the flame burning in the boiler for every second of that 24 hours then there is no argument that that will use more gas than if the flame is extinguished...

Cheaper to leave CH on 24 hrs?

Understood that for each hour the heating is off I save money! But my point is that the temp will drop considerably during that hour thus surely requiring the boiler to fire for a considerable time to bring it back to temp when it is timed on again. If it was on 24/7 then would the regular...

Cheaper to leave CH on 24 hrs?

As we have TRVs on most rads, and the other rads are turned off permanently I am wondering about the most efficient (cheapest!) way of running the system. (There is no room stat). My assumption on how it works is that the gas heats up the CH water to the temp set on the boiler dial, the pump...

Scalding hot water + rads on HW circuit?

Thanks Neil, makes sense. One thing that puzzles me though: when I have drained down the system in the past the towel rail and rad mentioned drain down. In fact the towel rail air bleed is the highest point in the system so I use that to put the rust inhibitor in. Surely if they were on...

Scalding hot water + rads on HW circuit?

Worcester Bosch HiFlow 400 in a pressurised system. There is no hot water cylinder as this has a "heatbank" in the boiler (I am not very impressed with it but that is another story!). The HW coming out of the taps is scalding hot regardless of what the HW temp control is set to. Set it to...

Highflow 400 not heating when CH running

I too am having problems with a WB Highflow 400 and having downloaded the installation and commissioning instructions have an idea of how it should work. The relevant info for you may be this: "The appliance will supply heat to the central heating system as required. A demand for hot water...

What pressure sealed system? + instant hot water?

Thanks for the info. I am confused though about how this system is supposed to work. Should the HW be programmed for (say) an hour every morning to fill the "cylinder" in the boiler, or is this unnecessary as it, allegedly, delivers hot water on demand? It seems to be a mixture of the two...

What pressure sealed system? + instant hot water?

House has a WB Highflow 400 installed in a sealed system. I have downloaded the manual and installation manual, but cannot find a recommendation for what the pressure should be. It is currently at about 0.5 BAR which I think is too low. I am about to drain down to fit some TRVs so need to know...

Do TRVs have to be fitted on Flow?

    Thanks for the info folks.

Do TRVs have to be fitted on Flow?

Does it matter if the TRV is fitted to the Flow side or the Return side of a rad? Logic suggets that it should be on the Flow side but how do you identify which is which anyway? Secondly, are all TRVs ok for a pressurised system or do you need special ones?

Hot and cold slowed to a trickle from kitchen tap

Thanks. But forgot to mention that other taps in house (including upstairs) have good pressure. Boiler is an (I think) odd thing in that it has a 50 litre cylinder inside apparently. I am not very impressed with it to be honest as you really have to turn it on every time you want hot water...

Hot and cold slowed to a trickle from kitchen tap

Mixer tap in kitchen has over time slowed to a trickle (both hot and cold). I took the head off (it has a pull out shower head type thing) and cleaned it out but there was no debris. Blockage (if that is what it is) must be further back in the pipes. But in both hot and cold? That puzzles me...

    Strange Ch and HW setup

So I wonder if the timer is the wrong thing here? Yes it is set to twice. Not sure what you mean by turning the "lock screw", this is a digital timer. You can only program it to have hot water on at certain times - but surely that is meant for having a hot water cylinder. Why would you...

    Strange Ch and HW setup

Girlfriends house has a puzzling (cr#p) heating installation! CH - 11 rads, no room stat. Only two of the rads have thermostatic valves (in two of the bedrooms). This seems to be a rubbish way to try and regulate the house temperature (well, you can't really). There is also underfloor...
