    Glue for UPVC pipe

Just bought 22mm pipe and 90 degree elbows. It say 'push fit' on the pipe. It's quite hard to push the pipe into the elbow, I need to twist and turn but it still does not go all the way. Have I got the right materials? If so, will it be tight enough to prevent a water leak or do I still need to...

    Glue for UPVC pipe

Thanks for the update! It will need to be strong since the overflow pipe will need to go through the cavity wall to the outside, in which case solvent cement seems the right stuff used by plumbers for this purpose.

    Glue for UPVC pipe

How long would I need before testing the overflow connections once Plumber's Mait has set?

    Glue for UPVC pipe

The pipes will be used for an overflow, so there will be water.

    Glue for UPVC pipe

Hello, I need to join two white 22mm UPVC pipes together by means of a 90 degree white plastic elbow. What kind of glue could I use? I only need a bit of it, could I use PVA? Thank you.

Sanding a door prior to painting

Will I still need to sand between 2 coats if I'm using water based paints, or does that mainly apply for oil paints? Thanks again.

Sanding a door prior to painting

I'm using Wet and Dry sandpaper. I dip the sandpaper in a bucket prior to sanding, as per the instructions. I'm using this method as it doesn't create any dust.

Sanding a door prior to painting

Hello, I have been wet sanding for an hour and a half an internal door and it's frame. I could have saved myself a bit of time when I realised I was also using the wrong side of the paper. It's a very tough old gloss paint and still is a bit shiny. Will that do or does it need to go completely...

    Formwork around hearth

I took the blocks away, screwed a couple of screws onto the wood, gently banged the sides of the screws with a hammer and the form works came out nicely. All that worry for nothing :sneaky: . Thanks again.

    Formwork around hearth

Forgot to mention, the Form-work is not nailed to the concrete floor but I've put several paving bricks and covered them with black plastic sheets to hold it tight.

    Formwork around hearth

Here we go. All I want to do is remove the form-work, put a strip of Damp Proof Paint 20mm wide and probably put it back, if all the effort is worth it. The raw materials I've used must have made a very strong bond.

    Black adhesive question

The bitumen type adhesive is probably there for a good reason. It looks like Damp Proof Paint and perhaps your kitchen had vinyl tiles when the house was built, which were in turn replaced by cork tiles. I'm saying that because I've got Marley type floor tiles, I removed a few and there was the...

    When to grout

Hi, Simple question: I've tiled part of a floor. Does it matter if I put the grout between the tiles one week later? Thank you.

    Installing wood burner

Under the stress of heat, metal will expand at a different rate and could create visible cracks in the masonery. Looking at the pic, the brick arch does not look very strong. I've enlarged my fireplace opening using a concrete lintel, no metal beads for external corners, Natural Hydraulic lime...

    Formwork around hearth

Hi, I've build a hearth that fills the base of the recess of my fireplace and the front of the chimney breast. I've put a Formwork around the front of the chimney breat, then used Damp Proof Paint, grit and sharp sand/cement 3:1, plasticiser, SBR and water, cement slurry on top, back buttered...

    Bag of cement with lumps

Hi, I've got builders to do some work around the house. I noticed a couple of bags of cement have been lying on the ground for a few days, so after work I removed them and noticed a few hard lumps on one side of the bags. The bags are unopened, waterproof and their use by date is at the end...

    Cable behind gas cooker

In what I plan to do, would I need to install the cables differently if it was a ring circuit? I don't really want to check two live wires but all I can see on the consumer unit is 32A.

    Cable behind gas cooker

Hi, I'm planning to fit a socket on the side of the cooker and an extractor hood above it. I want to connect a 2.5 mm cable from what was the immersion heater switch to a 1 gang socket and from there run a 1.5 mm cable horizontally and then vertically behind the cooker and up to the hood. I...

    Taking adhesive off quarry tiles

Hi, I've taken an old lino in my kitchen to restore the original quarry tiles underneath it. The problem is the adhesive is very hard to remove. It is of a grey texture, probably cement based. I used a scraper but it takes absolutely ages to remove the hard stuff. Any tricks of the trade on...
