Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

Sorry, I incorrectly typed 'Neutral' rather then 'Earth' for yellow and green. What I originally meant was that I can only find yellow and green seath in the shops but not red or black. So, since I can't find it would red insulating tape be acceptable to wrap round the very minor damage that is...

Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

I cannot cut it back. It's a very small cut on the red seath only (I cannot see the cable through it). Can I leave it or apply some red insulating tape? Thanks.

Filling the gaps on broken old Marley tiles

I would be surprised if damp can get through those tiles. But I will get myself a hygrometer damp reader to see if the vinyl tiles flooring read a humidity >75%. A cold floor surface attracts moisture so I will need to do that when the temperature of the air is less than that. If the floor was...

Filling the gaps on broken old Marley vinyl tiles

Hi, Probably a simple question. I have a concrete solid floor from where I have removed a carpet in order to lay a laminate flooring. By removing the wooden tack strip grippers which were nailed to the floor by the skirting boards, parts of the old brown Marley vinyl tiles broke (these...

Filling the gaps on broken old Marley tiles

I'm sure many people came across the same problem. Maybe I should have tried the flooring section (I haven;t used this site very much since I joined). The tiles are fine except for those by the skirting boards because I partly broke them by removing the wooden grippers that were nailed to the...

Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

On one of the Live cables, the red seath is slighly damaged (one small but not complete cut). The copper cable is fine. Is that anything to be concerned about ? They only seem to sell Neutral yellow and green seaths in shops. Can I wrap red insulating tape around it?

Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

The underground cable is connected to the second FCU and is buried under the earth until it reaches the outdoor garage which is about 60 feet away from the house.

Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

Sorry, I mean the thick black outdoor undergrround cable that is connected to an FCU from the house to the garage. I should have said that the consumer unit (not control unit) is located right on the other side of the house. That's probably why the wall light somehow never worked from the...

Switched spur connecting house to detached garage

Hi, Probably a simple question... I have a double socket which feeds two switched fused connection units all next to each other; the second one is for providing electricity to a detached garage and is connected via the first one which in turn is connected to the back of the double...

    Laminate flooring "popping up"

Aren't we suppose to put heavy furniture on laminate flooring? What about a large wardrobe and a double bed in a bedroom?

Filling the gaps on broken old Marley tiles

I am a leaseholder and I went to see someone in Asset Management at the local council (the landlord). The person told me they know the tiles, they contain a small amount of asbestos. But they again you are right, one will only know for certain if their own sample is tested. I just want to...

Filling the gaps on broken old Marley tiles

Hi, I have a concrete floor from where I have removed a carpet in order to lay a laminate flooring. I have taken out the wooden tack strip grippers which were nailed to the floor but by doing so parts of the old brown Marley asbestos tiles broke towards the skirting boards and I have...

Cementing an air brick with liner. Will the rain go in?

Probably quite a simple question. I have managed to make a 225 x 140mm hole by removing some bricks on a cavity wall. I now need to cement a liner and an air brick on the outer leaf of the cavity wall, all above head height close to the ceiling. I am concerned about rain going in. If I were to...

    Cracks in/around lintel

I had a crack on the plaster next to a large window. I removed the plaster to find out the cause and it looks like there has been a very small movement over the years to create a crack in a couple of bricks (please see Pic 2). Should I put some mortar around the lintel, some mesh and then...
