    Electric Ignition gas hob

So (and sorry to be a simpleton) - the hob was cleaned today so I'm sure you're right. Does shorted out mean the switch is kaput or should I take it out and leave on a radiator or something?

    Electric Ignition gas hob

Likely a simple question. My gas hob has an electrical switch you press which creates a spark to light the hobs. (Whirlpool hob) Today on pressing we get a plastic/electrical burning smell and a puff of smoke when we press the button. I've unplugged it all looks OK with a switch attached to...

    £1300

I'd view the amount the plumber made on parts as my premium for warranty and not having any doubt as to where responsibility lies. You pays your money and takes your choice.

    £1300

Why do you supply parts? Presume you'd want plumber to supply boiler/cylinder etc to remove the "it's not a fitting fault it's the manufacturers fault" thing. If he supplies all he's responsible for all.

    shower light

Thanks again. Does fitting an RCBO mean replacing the current mcb? Is it a simple job or is it time to get an electrician?? I assume the mcb pulls off and the RCBO pushes into it's place, but if it's more than that I'll get help...

    shower light

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. Should replace like with like, however don't seem to have an isolator switch on the CU. Is this a new reg - had showerlight fitted when bathroom done 5 yrs or so ago? The shower is not electric, if that's an issue.

    shower light

OK - have decided I should try a new fitting. There seems to be plenty of lights available for 76 mm cutouts. Measuring mine seems to be 78mm - I presume a couple of mm won't matter? So next thing is am I "allowed" to replace the unit and if so, should I replace with a 240V light as I...

    shower light

Yes - just worked out tonight (after having it for about 5 years!) that the front prises away. Trouble is if I prize the front away whilst it's in place the metal springs push the back half of the light up away into the void. Like I say, I wonder if the hole could be too big for the unit??

    shower light

Similar, but doesn't have the box enclosure at the back. Seems the front does separate but I can only do this with the whole unit removed. If I try and remove the front with the unit in situ the remainer of the unit "pings" up into the void. I wonder if the cut out was too big when fitted? It...

    shower light

So, I have a 240V light above my shower which takes the standard GU10 type halogen bulb. Fitted by an electrician when I had my bathroom done. Problem I have is that it's held in place by strong metal springs which clamp it to the plasterboard ceiling - everytime I need to change the bulb...

Back from hols - can't light boiler

Well, feel a bit silly - boiler now lit. Gas man said just needed longer to "purge the system" - that said was here half an hour with some banging and clattering.... I'll leave the gas on next hols!

Back from hols - can't light boiler

So went on hols for just over 2 weeks and decided to turn gas off at mains (never have done before, so why I did this time I've no idea). Now can't light my trusty ideal mexico floorstanding boiler (oldish but reliable - has permanent pilot and thermocouple, only ever had to have...

bathroom bulb exploded - new fitting

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Have checked the shower downlighter which is double insulated - think I'll buy a double insulated replacement for the existing light - seems the best option.
