    Dormer bungalow Conversion

The ridge height is only 1.5m, bottom of ridge to top of boards :( The width is about 7.5-8.0m. I guess the only way in this case is the reroof the bungalow. Is this likely to double the price or so?

    Tanking

Is your seeping area against a wall or in the middle of the floor like mine? Trying to figure out if this is a leaky pipe or a penetrating damp problem due to the levels.

    Tanking

Thanks Tipper, I have a similar setup, with the level below next door. An update, I tried this and it looks like it hasn't worked. A small area hasn't dried. I'm not positive where the mains water pipe runs, it may run under that floor to the kitchen. Perhaps I have a mains water seepage...

    Crack in pebbledash causing damp

Nice brickwork that, be a shame to cover it up with render. ;) Attack the free or cheap issues first as others have said. Then once they have be excluded you'll have to start spending money.

    Tanking

Well, thanks chaps i guess im a pioneer then, and you can learn a few things.. I had some KA tanking left over so i applied it on the damp patches on the floor. I know that the external wall has a level issue but hey ho, its been like that for 120 years, so lets see what happens, if it works...

    Mould problem

Pics of the outside wall would be useful opposite the affected area. Could be water ingress or condensation, mould feeds on water and damp corners.

    Cleaning brushes

Pretty basic question this but i seem to having problems cleaning an oil based B and Q value undercoat from my brushes. The new white spirit ive bought doesnt seem to be absorbing the paint any more. Its as if they have changed the forumlation of the white spirit by removing the solvent (health...

    Tanking

I have some tanking slurry and wondered if this is effective on floors as a damproof membrane. Anyone used it on concrete floors, im going to try it with a brush to get a thin even coat, what sort of thickness anyone recommend ? Cheers,

Possible Rising Damp but not sure...

Your better hope your buyers don't employ the services of their local RICS surveyor and his trusty moisture meter. After all if he didn't have one, he'd have to figure out what was really happening himself instead of using the blanket term, rising damp.

    Damp concrete floor DPM?

100%? Not sure I want a protracted legal wrangle over this. Are they obliged to pay for repairs generally if this creates issues down the line?

    Damp concrete floor DPM?

Update - I had a builder round, the looked at the wall and said that the issue was a patio from next door at a higher level allowing water in. The solution is to dig a trench and fit an external DPM from below wall level to above surface level. Since this is on the neighbours property and he is...

    Damp concrete floor DPM?

The Lino was laid over the floor, there is a line where the damp ends, see pic. The rest of the floor seems OK. Solid concrete. The outside wall is to the right of the picture. But funnily the damp doesn't go right to the walk, sea a 2inch gap. The wall is solid stone. Not any obvious pipes, but...

    Damp concrete floor DPM?

Was wondering what happens when a DpM is missing or broken from a concrete floor. Does the damp suck up through the floor and leave patches under objects placed on the floor? Took this pic after I removed some lino I had laid on the floor for a week(during the recent dry weather!). Would this...

    Damp concrete floor

Interesting to hear the property is only 5 years old! I was going to ask if the walls were of stone construction.. Anyway, slightly off topic, I was reading that in old properties, replacing a concrete floor with a timber floor plus ventilation often fixes the problem as old properties need...

    Damp concrete floor

I use a cheapie hydrometer. It will give you a better idea about damp relative to other areas. If you seal using a DPM, the water will just go elsewhere. Regarding the membrane, I'm no expert, but have seen similar issues, the water is usually coming from somewhere.
