Bathroom install - sheeting for walls ... or tiles?

We're going to have someone come out and look at doing our bathroom (total rip out and start afresh job) and i want to have some sort of a clue before they get here and not just swallow what may be a load of garbage because it might be something the installer would rather not do. Currently we...

    'Tinted' windows?

Yeah i know he had the whole thing installed from scratch but i was thinking he had new glass in new frames, i want new glass in existing frames & was simply looking in to this as a possibility, trying to find out more info about it so that we can come to a decision, that's all really. I did...

    'Tinted' windows?

I bother with the boss because he had the windows installed, he paid for them so he should at least know what he has installed, whether it's with or without film. I bother with the boss because when i asked him this week, i was told that it's actually not a film that was applied & it's actually...

    'Tinted' windows?

I'll have a chat with my boss but they can be a bit funny when you're asking for information, even over something as innocent as this. They get paranoid & it's like - why do you want to know? So they may or may not tell me what the deal is with their windows.

    'Tinted' windows?

We need new glass on the front of the house upstairs & my wife mentioned the other day about how she'd seen a house with windows that seemed a bit tinted & she was on about it as a possibility. From her point of view it'd be better for getting changed so she doesn't have to shut the curtains...

    Condenation - no condensation...?

We used to have the washing drying out in the house but 1) this was limited to the back bedroom and 2) haven't done this for a long long time since we looked in to dehumidifier vs tumble dryer and now we just tumble dry if we can't dry them outside. When the new windows were fitted the...

    Condenation - no condensation...?

Our windows get heavy condensation on them this time of the year all over the house. Last year we had to renew the living room windows (including frames) as we just couldn't solve a leak. Thankfully it seems to have done the job. The old glass that was in there before the change was very...

2 year old radiator sprung a leak - Screwfix (& how much inhibitor required?)

Well since the rad isn't going to be replaced for free i went out & got a new one today. It's easy to pan Kudox but really the water was crappy and the other Kudox rads are (so far) doing ok. So i can't have complaints really. A big influence was the brackets are already on the wall. The walls...

2 year old radiator sprung a leak - Screwfix (& how much inhibitor required?)

I had the plumber guy out and he said the same as you - powerflush and magnetic filter. All in all £480 i think the quote is. That's for the powerflushing and the magnetic filter. Well no surprises for anyone i think... Now short of the obvious (corrosion in the system) what do those...

How would you sound proof / deaden an old house (semi)?

Well it's nice to see that the first reply to that isn't one that says it isn't that loud :D lol. All in all there's been about 4 weekends like that this year. Plenty of weekends where they're a bit loud but 'only' about 4 like that. Those are recordings from 2 of them. I say only 4, it's 4 too...

How would you sound proof / deaden an old house (semi)?

Well i wonder if one of them is registered on this forum because the f##ers did it again this weekend. Saturday night i went to bed somewhere around 11:30pm-11:45pm. I could hear them from my bedroom but it was just a sort of low hum sort of thing so i tried to ignore it & obviously i fell...

How would you sound proof / deaden an old house (semi)?

Funny you mention the wardrobes. When we viewed the house the previous owners had wardrobes on the party wall in the bedroom. They were floor to ceiling i think pretty much all the way apart from the corner where they had something like a tall cabinet thing with a TV on top. We'll never know...

Cleaning out heat exchanger - contaminating water?

To be perfectly honest i don't know. My wife is more in to this than i am and even with that we've only been keeping them for 12 months & consult groups for questions answered. I'll have to ask about that & see what other more experienced people do. I know some use RO water which i guess they...

Cleaning out heat exchanger - contaminating water?

Not 'hot' water no, but they're not cold water fish, they're tropical so the hot tap gets run & then use the cold to bring it down to about 26c-27c, treat with conditioner & then it's good to go in the tank.

How would you sound proof / deaden an old house (semi)?

To be honest neither of us like confrontation, me nor my wife. The mentality of today is i do what i want when i want & F anyone who stands in front of me. For me to go round there & basically be saying hey i've got a problem with your noise levels to the point it bothers me enough to come & see...

Cleaning out heat exchanger - contaminating water?

Aye that's pretty much what he said. I must have a misunderstanding of it then? As he took it off there were 4 holes. 2 were shiny silver & 2 were black, which he said shouldn't be the case & will be because of the rust etc. He poured the acid cleaner into the holes & let it sit for 5-10 mins...

Cleaning out heat exchanger - contaminating water?

I don't want this question to get lost within the thread of my boiler/water running hot-cold-hot-cold since it's pretty important, or at least to us it is. For those who helped out, the chap came out today, has scheduled us for powerflushing & a magnetic filter install as suggested in the other...

How would you sound proof / deaden an old house (semi)?

I'm more curious about the approach that would be taken to be honest. With everything else we've got going on at the moment this is a million miles away right now, if we ever get it done at all, but i'd still like to know the approach. Basically we have a 1930s semi. It's a bit annoying in that...

2 year old radiator sprung a leak - Screwfix (& how much inhibitor required?)

Would this heat exchanger not be such a part? Or are you talking about other specific parts? I've a plumber who advertises as doing powerflushing coming out at the end of the week so hopefully we can start to get it sorted. I googled that i should expect around £400 +/- for the powerflushing...

2 year old radiator sprung a leak - Screwfix (& how much inhibitor required?)

Just a thought - could this manky water be linked to the hot-cold-hot-cold problem we're having with the boiler which people seem to think is *tries to remember name* heat exchanger? Or is it likely to be unrelated?
