adding 2nd switch for kitchen cabinet light?

I have LED strip under-cabinet light that is spurred off from socket. It's a hardwire type and has a low voltage transformer, its switch is also under wall unit. I am running a new cable to consumer unit for another light I am adding to kitchen island using looped in at switch method, and I...

    Plastering on deep texture wallpaper?

TY SFK! There are at least 3 paint layers I can see. Will using paint removal to remove the paint first a good way to start?

    Plastering on deep texture wallpaper?

Does anyone know the best way to get rid of deep textured wallpaper that's been painted over several times? I am guessing wallpaper stripper won't be much help because of the thick paints? I've read it somewhere if there's no bubble on wall when I spray water then it can be skimmed over? is it...

    are these bodge job?

My electrician is registered with ElECSA. He's come back to me admitting the oversights and wants to put it right saying he forgot to check the work of his apprentices. He will add wage boxes behind plasterboard but he says leaving connectors under capping is fine. Is this true? He will also...

water pressure and 3 way kitchen tap questions

I suppose this is a tricky question that's difficult to answer? Does anyone know where should I measure the water pressure for choosing kitchen tap? (the cold feed, hot feed, or the mains water feed coming to my flat?)

extending a lighting circuit but no CPC?

Thanks for the important reminder. I"d like to think I know the basics as I've done some notifiable work with an electrician on commercial site when I was studying EEE degree 20 years ago. I know my knowledge was very outdated and I have no idea about the latest compliance. I will have a spark...

extending a lighting circuit but no CPC?

On second thought, Can I run a new cable to CU? I had an EICR done and the existing cables are all fine. I'm having a new CU in few month time, if that's ok then I can just lay the cable first.

extending a lighting circuit but no CPC?

Oh bummer! really!? :( It really has no CPC. It was done in the 1966 when the building was built, and the wiring was red (live) and white (presumably neutral) for the lighting circuit. Look like I'm gonna have to spur off from a socket. Is that the same as fused spur forming a new socket?

    are these bodge job?

I think I will start rectifying some of the job myself and tidying up first fix, I've got a feeling it's going to be difficult to find an electrician to take over second & final fix. I can replace 25mm back boxes and put up some enclosure on Wago boxes. However, my most and immediate concern is...

    are these bodge job?

I have paid 50% after the first fix although they claimed they should get more as they've done most of the hard work in chasing the brick walls. they say second fix will only take a day and they've spend 2-3 days for first fixes. How much refund would you say is fair for what they have done...

    are these bodge job?

No, they were not the cheapest out of all quotes, they were chosen because they fit into times that I needed it done and also because they have very good review on mybuilders.com.

    are these bodge job?

I had electrician coming to do a kitchen rewire as well as some other bits like moving switches, adding sockets in some rooms...etc. I am now concerned if the first fix they've done was a bodge job after learning & reading a lot about renovation from many resources. 1. Wago connectors are...

questions for painting on newly plastered walls

Thank you (both) for the very helpful advice. What paints do you use if not contact matt? The plasters in kitchen are very mixed, some were stripped back to bare brick so Hardwall+multi, some were bonding+multi due to tile removal damage, and there's a bit of plasterboard too over RSJ. What's...

questions for painting on newly plastered walls

Thanks for sharing the experience. Did you mist coat once or twice? I was going to tackle imperfection with filler and sander after mist coat, would you say it’s better to tackle it on bare wall before mist coat if I can see the imperfection already?

First Time Skimming - Advice Needed

I don't know how flexible is this one compare with the cheap trowel I use (Draper 11" from toolstation). Perhaps try yours first and if you are having a hard time then buy a flexible one for other walls? or buy one standby and return it if not used.

First Time Skimming - Advice Needed

Please take no offence, the 'You' in the sentence was meat for OP as he's new to plastering. I am sure proper plasterers won't have that problem. When I was in plastering course, we were taught to use 1 trowel for everything. Instructor use it like it's a magic wand but I had found it hard to be...

First Time Skimming - Advice Needed

I thought about using cream of tartar but decided I don't want any risk of whether it works and unable to control the timing. With Extratime, I know for sure when multi is going to go off and I can plan my action accordingly so that there wouldn't be any panic. Yes, flexible trowel is used...
