    Mixed tile sizes

I would like to tile my kitchen using a 3 tile pattern, using 500, 333 and 165mm sq tiles. How big a grout line should I aim for? The lines will be various sizes as the tile sizes don't add up, a 333 and a 165 only give a 2mm wide line if they are next to a 500 tile, my planned pattern is below...

    Thermo valves and main thermostat

Yes it is a room stat, head down and typing without really thinking, it does switch the boiler on though! I've read up on the stat you recommend and it does look good and seems to get good reviews so thank you for that, I'll get one. Cheers.

    Thermo valves and main thermostat

Yes the porch is a very strange place to have a room stat especially as there is no heating in there, the boiler is in the downstairs loo so the stat has been fitted close to it. There when I bought place. I'm looking for full programming, different times for different days. Can you get ones...

    Thermo valves and main thermostat

Fitting thermostatic valves to my rads. I'm using the downstairs hall rad as the one without a trv, I might change this to a bathroom one but we'll see. My confusion comes from where to get the boiler thermostat moved to, its currently in the unheated porch so useless, house bought this way...

    Tavistock sinks

Been on my hols 8) Got to ring them up again as no email or phone call. They (H&H Bathrooms) say they were going to ring Tavistocks and were going to get straight back to me. Money back and go elsewhere but if they are all coming out of one mould then a different supplier will be selling the...

    Tavistock sinks

Anyone had problems with Tavistock sinks, mine is a semi-recessed 'Micra'. Had one delivered and the front is droopy, see photo. Replacement came today after a month delay. Its identical, same droop. I wonder if its a 'design feature' When its in place on worktop the droop on the...

New build - removal of boundary hedge

Well this has all changed now. To avoid the stress of a major dispute my brother agreed to the hedge being removed and a fence erecting. Both parties agreed to this and the builder put up his fence. Yesterday, while my brother is on holiday, the builder took the fence down and moved it further...

New build - removal of boundary hedge

Well I'd have said same, my hedge, hands off! This is my brothers quote; My boundary is a hedge, with trees growing in it. The plans show removal of the hedge and trees and replaced with a wall and garage. Council granted saying the fact I say the land is mine is not grounds for council to...

New build - removal of boundary hedge

I'm sure someone on here has the knowledge to answer this. My brother's nextdoor neighbour has sold off the bottom half of his garden for a new build. Next door is on a corner plot so has access from side street. New build has been approved (surprise, surprise) and plans say my brothers hedge...

    Spirit level vials

Had a set of Forge Steel levels from ScrewFix last year. Spotted yesterday the vials seem to have some kind of growth on the inside, looking very closely it appears to be specks of grit but I'm sure it is a microbe growth of some sort. How can this happen, I don't keep them out of sunlight...

    Lifting floor boards

Punch the nails through, why didn't I think of that... If I don't punch them all the way through I can pull them once the boards are up. I already have a start as theres one board loose where the central heating pipes were laid when it was installed. Interestingly there is still the house gas...

    Lifting floor boards

How do I lift floor boards without wrecking every t&g? I want to put them back after levelling the tops of the joists, room is only 10ft sq but sags 3/4" at middle. Going to make packers then replace boards. Each board has a nail about 3/4" from edge in each joist, jacking free side is simply...

    Petrol strimmers

Well I now have a huge long box in the kitchen, a umk25le. Comes with a 3 prong blade and line trimmer, have to unbolt to swap over. The big heavy stuff is now gone, attacked that 1st. Most of it was dead so hard going. I'm sure the Honda will be fine long term, I don't know of a bad unit...

    Petrol strimmers

The problem with the Ryobi is 100% the engine/carb. It has to be persuaded into life then you have 5mins coaxing it to rev without dying. Then if you stop to change the attachment it will not start at all once hot. This must be the carb but I've done all the adjusting I can, found a step by...

    Petrol strimmers

That sounds good to me. Straight shaft it is. The Ryobi blade attachment is a straight shaft, I wonder if this needs a solid driveshaft rather than a wire rope drive? I'm wondering about chopping my new machine up to make it expand-it compatible but don't want to lose the 5 year guarantee...

    Petrol strimmers

Looking for opinions on the preferred choice of strimmer shafts. The Honda 25cc comes with either straight shaft and an angled gearbox or a bent shaft and no gearbox. New machines available for good prices on eBay, presumably due to it being winter? I'm sure the two will have the same or...
