    Protective coat over emulsion

I have just painted a wall with dark blue matt emulsion. Unfortunately it is not very durable and marks and chips with the slightest touch. Even running a hand over the surface leaves a mark. I have seen there are clear coats designed to make such walls more durable but are they any good? Any...

    Which device for video streaming?

I do apologise. You did make it clear that the Firestick supported Britbox. In my weak defence, I had been googling devices that supported Britbox and a well known review site stated that the Firestick did not support it and basically said there were very few that did. I think I then went into...

    Which device for video streaming?

Just read that Roku do not support the Britbox app! Not sure whether the Amazon Firestick does either. I only wanted Britbox initially for the new Spitting Image series but was going to look at what else was on there that might interest me before deciding whether it was worth keeping. I am...

    Which device for video streaming?

Thanks very much. To be honest, a stick was my initial plan. It was only when I was looking at them on Amazon that I saw the Android boxes and this derailed me somewhat. Ultimately, if I want Android on thevTV, I can connect an Android device to it. A stick is simpler and will do all I need so...

    Which device for video streaming?

My Samsung smart TV no longer supports video content such as YouTube and Britbox so I need a relatively cheap device to allow me to stream videos. The two options would seem to be a streaming stick like Roku or an Android TV box (all of our phones and tablets are Android). I'm not sure which...

    Which Wago connector?

Thanks. I must have misread the Wago site info. I have some of the push type but I think I'll order up some lever type connectors to save any problems when it comes to doing the job.

    Which Wago connector?

Which type of Wago connector is suitable for 2.5mm2 stranded cable. The Wago site seems to suggest that the push type connectors are not suitable but the lever type are. However, other sites say the push connectors can be used with stranded cable. Any advice welcome.

    Moving socket in partition wall

I want move a socket approx 2 metres along a stud partition wall. This wall will be skimmed once all work in the room is complete. The easiest way to do this as far as I can see is to cut out windows in the plasterboard, close to the studs, then drill holes in the studs and run a new cable...

    Crystal Royale coal bed

Thanks for the advice. The coals were ok until I handled them and the paint started coming off. I'll wait until my other half is out otherwise she will want to know why I am playing with the fire again when it is working ok. I am perhaps a bit of a perfectionist.

    Crystal Royale coal bed

I think you are right and it is just a case of patience until a stable bed is achieved. I need to touch up the coals with ceramic coal paint at some time so when I do that I will perhaps look to see if some coals are slightly larger than others. These would then go at the front where I currently...

    Crystal Royale coal bed

Yes, apart from the arrangement for supporting the coals. Mine has a ceramic tier arrangement that supports the coals like this: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/834736/Crystal-Fires-Cf2-Montana.html?page=22#manual

    Crystal Royale coal bed

No, there is just a picture of the coals installed and they all look pretty much the same.

    Crystal Royale coal bed

Since I last had my Crystal Royale gas fire serviced, a couple of the coals have fallen down the bed and rested on the glass. When the gas engineer replaced the coals, he put them back as per the manual that I keep, which to be fair isn't brilliant in this area. Anyway, I had a go at replacing...

    Tap spacer

Guessed this was possibly the case. I will trim accordingly. Did question the "less than 35mm" bit. It would be some serious sink that was thicker than that. My old composite sink was only a few mm thick. Perhaps they mean 3.5mm? Thanks anyway.

    Tap spacer

I am about to fit a Watersmith mono tap to a stainless sink. There is a triangular plastic spacer supplied which the instructions say is for use if the sink is less than 35mm thick. Mine obviously is thinner than this but the spacer will not sit flat under the sink due to the shape of the sink...

    Masons mitre assebbly tips

Thanks. Some good tips there. I see he uses PVA which would appear to be ok. Is this better than silicone or acrylic sealer? I have plenty of worktop offcuts so I think I will try a test piece before I do the real one. My new worktops are black gloss so I don't want to use anything that will...

    Masons mitre assebbly tips

I fitted my current laminated kitchen worktop about 10 years ago and it went ok but I was never fully satisfied with the joints which I never got completely flat. I am just about to install a replacement laminated worktop and would just like a bit of advice to help me get good level and...

    Quartz worktops

I am considering replacing my laminate kitchen worktops with quartz. I have had quotes from a couple of local "designer" kitchen companies which do seem a bit high. They both subcontract out the fitting of these worktops and you get the feeling they would really like you to buy a whole new...

    Flattening pine planks

I have recently removed the pine rails from a ranch style staircase. These are 25mm x 250mm in varying lengths and I would like to use the wood for another project. Unfortunately, they have becomes slightly bowed in the 40 plus years they have been in place. I would like them thinner (18mm -...

    Compression or one piece reducer.

I must admit that I feel more comfortable with the two piece as there is some allowance for nipping up if there is a weep. Not sure if you can do this with a one piece. I may be wrong though.
